Just ordered a C1

Post by Bailes1992 »

So last week the Missus C3 went bang in a big way leaving a gaping hole in the side of the gearbox.
Unfortunately a new low mileage box is £300+. The clutch is due too meaning even if I did the job myself it would cost me a minimum of £500.
I managed to get our KA on the road on a temporary basis so she can get back and fore work but that's also fit for the scrapyard.

I've officially had a guts full of cars so took the easy way out and ordered her a brand new motor.
Got a Citreon C1 Flair VTi68 S&S on order.
It was a deal that I really couldn't turn down. £430 deposit. £83/month for 12 months. After 12 months you can hand the car back, finance/pay the balloon payment or keep it on a rolling monthly contract for 3 years.

Should hopefully have it in sub 3 weeks.
Meanwhile, I have a C3 to strip for parts!

I drove a rented Toyota Aygo (aka Citroen C1, Peugeot 107) around for 10 days a couple of years ago.
I really enjoyed it, and loved the 3-cylinder engine growl. Only time I noticed the limitations of the short
wheelbase town car design was when I hit a semi-rut at 70 mph on the A303. Resulted in a very disconcerting
lateral pitching. Not sure that the real-life fuel consumption of these cars is all it's cracked up to be.

The new one shares the same underpinnings and 1.0 litre engine with the old one.
It does however look a lot more grown up!

It's got an awesome spec on it too! Remote central locking, electric windows, electric and heated mirrors, ESP, speed limiter, trip computer, air conditioning, reversing camera, parking sensors and a 7" colour DAB radio which can display an android phone screen so you can use it through the radio. All pretty impressive for a city car.

Going to strip the C3 this weekend so I can get rid of the shell.
Not sure of the easiest way to get the engine out. At the moment I'm thinking of dropping it on a pallet under the car, cutting the entire front end off and just sliding it out.

Jesus that C3 turned out to be a right turd then :frown: bet you're well pissed off at the amount of money it cost, are you hoping to recoup most of it in parts?

The C1 sounds a good deal for the money and you're only paying out what you'd have lost in depreciation on the thing anyway.

I guess you've seen now first hand how some modern cars just won't make it past 10/12 years now especially with rust making an unwelcome return to motoring and cheap components built down to a price to suit car makers.

It will probably do the stated fuel consumption figures if you drive like a granny and keep the revs down.

But with a revvy little motor like that and the growl it makes when you give it the beans, how can you possibly stop yourself from having a bit of fun?

The C3 isn't that bad. Everything on it is pretty solid. Just unlucky I guess.
4th had been whining since day one. It was very very quiet so we missed it on the test drive but it's been getting louder and louder.

I've lost any enthusiasm for cars now. The KA will be broken as well.

The C1 is a pretty good deal. 12 months of motoring in a brand new car for £1,343.
The spec we've ordered is just over £11k. How much would it be worth in 12 months? £7k?

I like the 107 - drove it as a hire car in Poland a few years around around the Tatra mountain range. Was a bit of a push to get it up hills but it was a nice thing to drive.

Let's just hope this new C1 doesn't give you half as much trouble as that new* Ford you have....

I suspect being French it will be immaculate when it arrives and it won't go wrong for however long we decide to keep it.

I am now however toying with sticking a 406 V6 in the C3. It's a common conversion in the C2's and they are the same car.
I'm pulling the little 1.4 out today to sell.
