Re: Does anyone like driving?
ive found lately its down to which car yu have. what i really hate is when you dare to overtake someone on a country lane doing 40mph they seem to think you are a master criminal.

What? Nosteve_earwig wrote:I've been reading lately that the decline of the hydro pneumatic suspension is down to people not liking the ride and trying to make them feel like conventional springs. And hey presto, it's being phased out as we speak![]()

The essence of Citroën has always been the magic carpet ride, I can't believe they would go so far as to scrap it.

I think the bottom line is its to expensive and an additional complication. I have been running hydropnumatic Citroens for about 30 years and there is nothing to touch them for ride but successive models have departed from the original system and are not as good as the early ones.
The best one was the DS, never had one of those but I have had CX's , XMs and now a C5 which is not as good as the XM. Sad to see it go but a lot of modern cars don't feel as though they have any suspension at all, do people really like that? Not every one wants to corner at 60mph surely, I would go for comfort over speed every time, especially if you do a high mileage.

Yeah, I don't understand why a lot of cars these days are so stiffly sprung. Honestly, the 406 is about as stiff as I'd go for a road car.
On the other hand, SUVs have very comfortable suspensions. The X5 in particular is amazingly comfortable. Perhaps that's why people are buying those behemoths?

Yes.
When the traffic is moving I enjoy a good long trip in the '6. Especially if I am on my own, which usually means a business trip with expensed mileage. Turn the music up, cruise on and munch the miles. Certainly makes me appreciate how good it is at motorway cruising
I look forward to towing my caravan to out of the way places. I spend most of my time on CLs (farmers fields) which are usually located down small country lanes. Navigating them with a 7m caravan on the back is a challenge I take pride in being able to do well.
And finally when the sun is out I head for the B3301 in the mini, top down, pop & rock playing, 60mph corners
puts a smile on my face and many others who see us go past
When the roads are jammed full of tourists, I'm in a rush, and they are tootling along at 20 in town, 50 on the A roads... Not so much

I'm probably one of those
but I do get out of the way if someone wants to pass.

Unusually I did about 900 miles last WEEK at all different times and saw some horrific driving out there; in particular the overtaking risks and for the first time in 6 years an ABS-assisted stop on dry tarmac thanks to a girly in a new Merc A-Class thing slamming-on in front of me after changing lanes and closing my safe distance at the last moment.
