Bought a new car

Post by hammerman »

Well, for those that have seen my posts about my 406`s knackard engine,i`ve decieded not to repair it.The car is too good to break really.2003/53 SE estate, mint half leather,16" alloys, sat nav, good bodywork apart from the bonnet.no exspense spared on its up keep.I may put it on ebay for offers or highest bidder, unless any one wants it on here.
Any ways,i`ve got myself a new car :D I`ll give you a while if you`d like to guess.Bearing in mind i`ve had french cars since 2001.

I suspect it won't fetch much on ebay spares or repairs, which is a shame.

Umm, something French, not a 406 or you'd be pulling parts from the SE for it. Umm, 407?

A 407 lol.Brought a 2008/08 2.2 hdi GT sw.Full red leather,parking sensors,xenons,etc.
2 problems. Its 210 miles away, and its got 154k miles on it.BUT,it had a new dual mass and clutch last year.Book value based on 12k per year is £4850 :cheesy: .I`m paying £1500  .Done a HPI check, clean as a whistle.
The way i see it,its "only" £1500,with £1000 worth of dmf and clutch done.If it lasts a few years till the pump or something goes,so be it.Its 5 years newer than my 406,and 60k less.If i had spent £7000 on a 5 year old car with 70k miles, whos to say i got to spend £1000 a year down the road for a dmf and clutch???
Plus with 170 bhp and 280lbft,i wont be getting it remapped!!

Sounds like a steal at that price, well done.

I agree it's not seriouly underpowered in standard guise, but you could do with getting that dpf the fap out of there.

Seems we're well on the way to having all the 2.2 twin turbo 407's on here, as this is number 3.

Well,i brought it yesterday,£1400 in the end.april`08,156k miles, very nice drive.Has some issues.Drivers side heater flap stuck on hot,a/c not working although some diy gas top up has got the pump working,so its not the pump. The xenon headlights are not factory fitted. No parcel shelf.Only 1 key,the remote 1.No record of the cambelt being changed.Needs 2 front tyres. Not got the full 170 bhp.Sometimes it has,and goes like stink, sometimes its not as fast as my 406"130".I think its related to the cruise control/speed limiter,as it does not always work, and the speed limiter resets its self back to 18 mph.Thats when its not as quick as it should be.When it works, and i set the max speed to 157 mph,it goes and pulls like stink.Hopefully maybe just the stalk,i dont know.I`ve found a fix on you tube for the heater flap.Giving it a full service at the moment, then sort out getting cambelt etc changed.

Well, full service done and aux belt.Full wash n polish, clean up on the inside, front center arm rest fixed, new remote body and key blank arrived.Local car shop wont cut said blank."too hard them off the net" Took it to Timpsons, cut the blank free of charge as they cant garrenty it and they did not supply it 8) .Swapped the pcb over and it all fits together and works fine.Keys will not work on drivers door lock though.I`m hoping its just like on my 406,in that the lock never gets used so will try some lube after holiday.Timpsons can make a new remote for around £160 all in,they will even get the 4 digit pin code.Or they can make a basic chipped key for around £55.Not all shops do it though. They have certain shops that do the chipped car keys.
Cheapest cambelt, tensionor and water pump price so far is £385.I can get the parts myself for £125.Acces dont look too bad on the 407.Never done a cam belt before though. And 1 of the Xenons has stopped working. Not looked into it yet. Will try to post some pics if i can remember how!!

I would guess the cambelt will be pretty much the same as a 2.2 406, which is not too bad to do. I managed to get a good quality belt kit, including tensioner, idler and water pump for just under £100, but I think that was a particularly good deal. Took me about half a day, (or maybe a bit more with bleeding the bleeding cooling system).
