Someone's been a-ragging it. I'll bet it sounds fantastic but...meh.

This was at the place that changed the tranny oil in yoyo2:

In for engine work (I think...). I've no idea what Mazzer it is, I guess I could Google it but I'm sure all you gear-heads will recognise it instantly

Worth about 30k€ apparently, the 214 on the chassis plate allegedly means it's one out of 240 made. Tbh it wasn't that interesting to look at, until he opened the bonnet

Paintwork looked nice and flat but also like there was a lot of paint under it. No rust that I could discern. Oh, and the wooden steering wheel/knob/handbrake combo is hideous.

I was asked if I wanted to come back for a ride in it, which I politely declined as it was so low to the ground I could imagine ending up in hospital afterwards.

I think it's just called a Maserati Biturbo (that's an inventive name isn't it?)

The very first classic auction I went to an earlier version of one of them went for £1200, it was in really good nick too, I soooo wanted to start waving at the nice man with the hammer!

Ah, Biturbo was the only name I could think of so I decided it couldn't be that

I know precious little about them, apart from they rust like buggery and cost a fortune to maintain.

It's a Maserati Quattroporte Biturbo.

Quattroporte simply means "four doors".

I quite like the Maserati Granturismo.

It's a grand tourer, whose name simply simply means "Grand Tourer". Inventive names, huh? :cheesy:

I'm pretty sure it only had 2 doors...

It's even lower than the 406, with a "legs straight out in front of you" driving position = agony.

I just googled the 'DGM' bit on the chasis plate and got told it's a 2-door Maserati Ghibli (giblets?)

Glibly maybe?

Here's another, half the alleged price and newer but the one in the workshop is meant to be a special (needs?) http://www.njuskalo.hr/auti/maserati-gh ... glas-71006

So the horrible wood bits are standard? Bleurgh

Whoops. Looked like a 4-door to me, from the pictures, but then I realise the pictures only show the front doors.

That's a Ghibli? It's ghastly! The original Ghibli looked like this:

Image

Lovely and curvy, right through from 1967 to 1973. I thought the Ghibli name died off until the new 4-door version came out, but apparently not.

Curves disappeared and they gave us this chunky thing from 1992 to 1998:

Image

Now the name is back, but it's a 4-door, targeted at the same market as the Jaguar XE. There's even a diesel version! Looks a bit like a four door Maserati Granturismo.

The name "Ghibli" is the Libyan word for a type of Mediterranean wind that we (and VW) call "Sirocco".

I know what type of wind it should be called; the FART because you'll have an uncontrolled gust of the stuff when you send that bastard in for a cambelt change and you get 'the call' at work

Aren't Mazzer engines chain cams?

That original Glibly is gorgeous (hints of AM and Ferrari maybe), the later, as I said, doesn't look like anything special, a square box more like something Ford made. Apart from under the bonnet, although a cross flow would fit under there nicely...

Looking again at the seating position, the rake of the steering wheel (presumably fixed) and how far away the gear stick is then the ergonomics R ALL RONG for something posing as a supercar type thing.

Verdict = fail.
