calling it a day

Post by D9406 »

My much loved and abused 406 estate is at the end of the road possibly.
Parts are getting harder to find and it's not economically viable for me at least to keep it going plus I'm too ill to do the work now so with regret it's fired. Not sure how long I've had it off the top of my head but 14 years at least.
It's too good to just scrap and I don't have the energy to break it, I'll probably offer it up here first after I've decided what to do with it. The last straw was rear roll bar bush clamps. Real shame as it's solid, reliable and dry but has not MOT, might be tempted to put one on it though depending on how much it's going to cost, should go through but you never know.
1999 406 HDi 2.0 110 GTX Estate. 48k when bought, now 150K. Second owner, I've covered over 100k in it.
Clutch changed @110k, bottom pulley changed, cam belt changed, EGR blanked, cat removed, front springs changed.

Pity, but I understand where you are coming from.

Fortunately mine keeps scraping through MOTs but it'll be discarded if it fails next time as it's only a dump trip car ( albeit reliable and comfy )

Second hand cars seemed to have gone up in price so I'm not sure if a worthy replacement will be cheaper than getting yours fixed though...?
