Adobe Programme - Computer help!!
Where can I get an Adobe programme that will convert my Microsoft Work documents into PDF's for emailing?
I've got the Adobe Reader but I am told I need the Adobe Toolbar in my Word programme to do the conversions.
Please don't get all testical with me because I know next to nothing so any helpful advice would be nice.
Welly.

What you're looking for is Adobe Acrobat.Welton wrote:Where can I get an Adobe programme that will convert my Microsoft Work documents into PDF's for emailing?

This installs a few neat tools (inc the little buttons in Word) and also a virtual printer which you can select from FILE > PRINT and that automatically creates a PDF with default settings on your desktop.
Send me your Word file, I'll convert it for you. But send me it today, or else I'll not be around.
I'm PMing you my e-mail
Thats 4 years of Adobe tech support training coming out there!

Personally I prefer the free software solution Ghostscript.
Ghostscript et al
Install a standard postscript printer in windows, set to print to file, then use Ghostview to distill the result into a PDF.

Well it's for work actually. People keep wanting everything on frigging email so I need to get with it (construction trade very old fashioned).
If I email a word file then they can frig about with it so it's better in PDF.
I'm running Adobe 7.0. I will have to look at the Acrobat thing then, see if it's on there.
It's a new PC and apparently it's the dogs doodads as far as PC's go but I'm so stupid with it I don't know what half of it does

Grab OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org/
It's a free replacement for MS Office stuff which can open MS Office stuff and save as PDFs

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
I have had more compatibility issues with Acrobat versions 5, 6 & 7 than I have ever had with Ghost.Blue406 wrote:Trouble is, with third party PDF converters, you get that typical third party product issue... namely slightly less that OEM quality and compatibility issues.
Stick to the original for maximum compatibility and good results.
Also speedwise ghost wins hands down. I have a decent spec main machine with Acrobat on it, I also have a rather old 400Mhz PII running windows 98. Ghost runs on that and it slays Acrobat on the P4 machine.
As to quality - PDF is basically compressed encrypted Postscript, this is a vector format so there are really no issues there.
File sizes also tended to be smaller under Ghost for the same jobs.

Talk about quality and compatibilty issues - read the terms and conditions on that one

"insert advertising material into the file" - might not go down too well
Whoa!! That's a sore one. Never got as far as reading the t&c. Well spotted V6.V6Exec wrote:PJ wrote:Alternatively you might want to try an online converter. Here

That's one that won't be in the favourites folder.
