Got the 406! :D

Post by Eric »

Yay!

The salesman sighed and put his head in his arms when I said there was no MOT, but luckily we'd done all the paperwork anyway before he asked :P
lol
He thinks he's going to get £2k for my old 306!
Good luck with that mate! :P

On the other hand the new beast is sweet!

Purrs like a kitten (with that slight tractor noise  )
Drives beautifully and is so light and east to drive it's actually relaxing unlike the 306.
Engine is a good honest clean engine, dry with no sign of oil or water leakage anywhere.
No knocks or bumps from steering and suspension even over speed bumps.
Air-con works very well, almost too well - The wife and I must have looked like penguins sat in there at 19 degrees :P

I'd have to say the car seems pretty mint :cheesy:
I noticed I slight rubbing sound from the rear drivers wheel when going past walls when I left the garage but that's stopped now so might have been some crud on the disks/ pads where it's been sat that's cleared off now.
Airbag light was on but a little wiggle of the magic orange wire sorted that and I've noticed the immobiliser light seems to stay on when driving if I start it straight away and drive off - It doesn't come on if I turn the ignition on and leave it for a few seconds before starting, so nothing terminal there.

Everything else works perfectly, even the CD changer - So at last I have sounds! Yay! :cheesy:
Not bad stereo for an O.E one either :D
It doesn't have a trip computer though... Boooo! Just displays temp and radio info.

All in all very happy with the new motor and I think I've got a good-un.
Well I know who got the best deal tbh and it wasn't the guy with the 306 :P

Glad it's gone well Eric (apart from the shades :| ).

You'll have to post some pics when you can.

Yeah I will post pics when I get my digi-cam to work again.

It's all going well so far.
Taxed and all road legal, wife on the insurance as well for an extra £14, bargain I was expecting at her age it would be more - At least I can drink and she can drive my car now.
Incidentally this is the first car of mine that she has been able to drive (MR2 and GTi-6 had very heavy clutch and steering that she couldn't get on with.)

Apart from the odd electrical gremlin - Fuel gauge started off at 0 yesterday with reserve light and low fuel warning but slowly moved back up to full over a few minutes and I still occasionally get the immobiliser light when driving.
Being French, flaky electrics comes as part of the package!

Other than that the car is lovely to drive.
Got the CD changer full loaded up ready for the trip to work and back today, should be interesting to see how it is in heavy traffic.
The Gti-6 was a bit of a PITA in traffic with it's crazy spring clutch and need of revs to pull away.

I'm sure the 406 will be great in traffic.
Already looking forward to going to work.... How sad is that :P

Oh and the garage seem to have gone walkies with my Oakleys - The bastards!

I've pinched the misses Oakley's for now till I can save up and get another pair 8)

Nice drive into work this morning, I've discovered that I like 5th it pulls well in 5th.

I also learnt that corners and roundabouts are something to be feared now and not my personal playground unlike in the 306 that pulls in tighter the harder you accelerate :P
