Hi,
I was wondering what is the most economical way to drive the HDi engine, I had a 309 DT (cost more in gaffer tape than fuel) and the best way to drive this was never go over 1,800 / 2,000 rpm which returned brilliant mpg (60mpg +)
I have been using a similar driving style in the HDi always changing at 2,000rpm, I am just wondering if it would be more economically to change at say 2,500 rpm so when you change you are always on the high torque section of the revs as oppose to just under when changing at 2,000rpm. The DT was easy never engage the turbo so effectively it was a straight diesel until you needed the power.

i found it best not to sit in too high a gear, as labouring made the little blighter use a bit more fuel. 30 mph - 3rd gear was about gight, not popping into top unitl well past 50, but getting there briskly (but not foot on the boards). In other words, pretty much as we were taught at work operate by the book in an HDi.
