Where do you get your oil?

Post by DaiRees »

Service time is approaching again.

I remember some time ago someone (Welly maybe?) put up a linky to a mail order place for getting toppest notch engine oil for not-so-stupid prices? Anyone got any clues?

Cooo-eeeey..........it was me :cheesy:

This is the place I suggested for Silkolene/Fuchs engine oils.

I use the XTR 10W/40 semi-synthetic.

I like the Silkolene/Fuchs oils and can recommend them thoroughly.

(embarrasingly, this time I didn't order mine in time for last weeks oil change and had to plump for 4.5 ltrs of the best 'big oil drum grade' from my mechanic who said it was a semi-syn by UniPart or someone, hope I don't regret it now).

  actually the engine has developed a hydraulic lifter 'tick' in the mornings as the Silkolene had been in there for 12 months of constant short journeys so was in need of changing. I was hoping the new oil would sort it but it hasn't. So I think this 'goo' oil maybe doesn't circulate as good as the Silkolene :frown:

I'll probably drop it out after the winter, say sorry to the engine, and 'treat' it to some lovely smooth Silkolene for the summer.

Right I went into the stealer to get filters and stuff today and asked how much they charge for oil, and he said Total Quartz 7000 10W40 "synthetic based" (semi-syn) as recommended by peugeot was 13.87 + vodka for 5l, so I had that!

On a similar vein, is there such a thing as good and crap brake fluid? I've never done a routine brake fluid change on a car before, only my jeep (and that wasn't routine, most of it had already pissed out!). So do I want to be sourcing a particular brand name or will the "motrio" stuff my local motor factor sells be satisfactory?
