So the car has come back as written off, insurance do not want to pay for the repair,
The gentleman at the body shop said that I could try to beat the rear of the car back so that I can close the boot and carry on driving it. I am considering doing this as there will be no visable external damage once i can shut the boot, however I am concerned that it won't pass the MOT? and would it need re-certifying before it can be used on the road again?

Im also looking at a replacement around £1500 mark so if anyone has got one for sale....

What a farce that is :x

The insurance, by the time they factor in all the costs including car hire etc makes the car a write off just with minor damage :o

If it's a CAT D write off then I don't think you need any inspection of the repair. Might be worth agreeing a figure and you keep the car then spend, say, £400.00 fixing it properly at a local bodyshop.

I would fight to keep my car in this situation if it was minor damage. I would negociate with the assesor and be honest about your intentions to keep and fix the thing.

The insurances approved repair company quote £2800 for the repair!! which I think is abit over the top!
They have allowed me to keep the car cost free, and given me £1000, I went directly through the other guys insurance. I'm still considering getting it repaired and will to take it for a price later from local repairer.
If I can do enough to repair it myself for free however then I would rather do that, I'm just concerned It may not get through an MOT in september.

£2800!!!!!! That's ridiculous! I'd definitely get it repaired yourself, As long as the car looks straight it wouldn't fail an mot, they don't go over the body with a fine toothcomb.
My bike was written off last year when I came off in a diesel spill, the generator cover was smashed and a barend snapped off, and the clutch lever.
It cost me £60 to repair and I had £600 in my pocket!

Can you think of any part of the MOT where they will check if your boot opens and shuts? I presume your bumper car still drives, so why not drive it down to the MOT place and ask!

I thought the idea of the MOT was safety, be it for for yourself, other road users, the environment etc. so why does the boot lid need to work? In case you accidently shut your mother-in-law in there or something? What else would they worry about? "I'm sorry but I can't give you an MOT because your radio doesn't pick up Jazz FM."

have you thought about removing the rear light lenses & using a speader bar roped to another vehicles tow bar then 'rocking' the dent out?

i pulled rear shunt dent out of an old 405 with a mini-digger!!
