Consumer advice needed

You know how I took my car in for an MOT on Saturday?

Well they didn't close the bonnet. Result being I nearly died while overtaking on a 3-lane road (2 up, 1 down, only painted dividers) on the way to work just. The bonnet's bent out of all usefulness , the mounts have twisted and the support arms are snapped.

What should I do?

Holy Moly m that was dangerous :shock:

Unfortunately I think they will deny any wrong doing as it is difficult to prove any connection with the accident 2 days after they had the car.

I would consider speaking to them but do a bit of research first as you'll only get one shot at them.

'V6exec' on here is good with this sort of stuff, I haven't noticed him around for a bit maybe PM him?

(I am sending my regards to you in this message as I can imagine that was horrific this morning)

The same thing happened to my wife's old rover 218SLD a couple of years ago, only it was on the way back from the MoT :x .
I took it straight back to them and they agreed to fit a New windscreen & second hand bonnet in the right colour :) , but I agree with Welly's coment that it will be more difficult to prove liability 2 days later :( . Good luck though.

The stuff of nightmares! I don't even like to think about it, the sudden loss of vision...

The others are right, it's probably going to be hard to prove now but I wouldn't talk to them 'til you know where you stand. I'd suggest cab (if they still exist) or even talking to your insurers.

What a ballache.

Took some time off work to see if I could iron it out a bit. The bonnet is not too difficult for a heavy guy to "fix" with the application of some bodyweight, but the hinges are toast. They've buckled at the top which is preventing them from closing properly. Tried to hammer out the buckles, but all I succeeded in doing was chipping the car park at work. The metal's just too thick to bend back.

The thing is my MOT expires wednesday and I'm skint until payday in a fortnight's time, so given the huge dimensions of the 406 bonnet, I'm going to have to get a garage to charge me bucketloads to source and fit a new one as I just won't be able to collect one (don't know anyone with a car/van at least as big as a 406 estate, which is a tight fit for a bonnet)

Guess it might just have to stay in the works carpark for a month and a half with its lid precariously balanced until I can afford to get a garage to do all the work on it. Until them I'm going to have a long walk to work each day :(

Retards. I want to go to that garage and hurt the guy who tested it without bothering to close the f*cking thing

:idea: If in your situation i.e skint I would find one in a breakers (same colour if poss) and get them to help me fit it in situ.
But it doesn't have to be the same colour for MoT, and at least you'd be mobile.

I have a little over 25 hours until the MOT expires and I can't get off work tomorrow, else that's exactly what I would do
