Looks like you will be buying a diesel 406 again then   None of the petrol 406's will give you around 50mpg. I would guess you would get 35 to 40 at a push out of a petrol but dont quote me on that .

"the" petrol? There's the 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 8v, 2.0 16v, 2.0 8v turbo, 2.2 and 3.0 V6

I can only speak for the turbo and v6.

2.0 turbo (BP standard fuel):
50-55mpg slipstreaming trucks
42mpg holding 60mph (indicated)
25-30mpg 'normal' motorway driving
10-15mpg urban
4mpg doing 140mph (GPS) on the autobahn

3.0 V6 (BP Ultimate):
40-45mpg slipstreaming trucks
39.5mpg 60mph (indicated) on cruise control
34mpg 'normal' motorway driving
22mpg urban
7.8mpg doing 160mph (GPS) on the autobahn
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

LPG conversion on a petrol and you will get better than 50mg in money terms, as lpg is half the price. ok, you have the initial outlay but if you do any sort of mileage, it will pay for itself in a few months.
