Take cover
Yes I have heard this. But not from someone whos actually owned both cars.
Would you say the 407 is a better car? If so why?

Hell yes! It's like it's on bloody rails! Take a test drive of one round well known territory and you'll be like "sh*t! I didn't even feel that corner! And I'm going 20mph faster than usual!". The armrest flicks into the *perfect* position too ;)rapport25 wrote:Is it true the 407 handles far better than a 406?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Hi all!!
Happy New Year. It's been a while since my last post (doo do do) but when i noticed the 407 thread i just had to log in.
My '7 is 3 years old this month and its 3rd clutch is being installed next week under warranty. How many miles? 32k
i first noticed the slipping at 7k, but as i was unfamiliar with the DMF issue wasn't sure enough to complain until 18k - clutch 1 gone, clutch 2 in.
Since September last year i started noticing a small amount of slipping in 4th, 5th and 6th between 1800 and 2200 rpm. this wan intermittant and NEVER occurred when left with the dealer. It has gradually got worse and has now started slipping almost every time i drive the car.
The service manager said that this is only the 2nd car that he has ever had that needed the clutch done twice.
So next week is bye bye clutch 2 and hello clutch 3. Then i have no warranty
I have also had both front hubs replaced and have been advised that there is a warranty extension on them up to 4 years.

2.0 - BE3 (Manual) and the Siemens AL4 (Auto)mjb wrote:It's not the same gearbox, manual at least. Maybe the same design and housing, but (some of) the internals are different. 406 coupe 3.0 V6 has the 2.0 gearbox and a sh*t load of compromises.
What compromises are there other than the keypad immobiliser and auto-closing windows (actually part of the immobiliser system)?
V6 - ML5T (Manual) and the ZF 4HP20 (Auto)

Which 2.0? The 2.0 8v? 16v? or one of the diesels?STALLED wrote:2.0 - BE3 (Manual) and the Siemens AL4 (Auto)

The 2.0 8v turbo (xu10j2te) uses the ML5T
