FTP?

Hi there pipple, any of you bods know how my bro can send me huge video files? We're thinking some sort of ftp client but neither of us know what we're doing so can anyone save us the bother of finding out and tell us what we need?

FTP's a good way of transferring large files, but you need an FTP server. Either one of you needs to run one on your machine, or you should see if you can find some web space somewhere. Your ISP may give you a few gigs accessible by FTP, but you'd have to share the login details...

Another way of doing this would be to use bittorrent. Yes I know that there are thousands of other people sharing what you want to send him but making a torrent of the file and sending this to him, will mean no setting up when it comes to ports on firewalls etc. Worth a go.

I suppose the only problem here would be that they'd both need to be online at the same time while the transfer is being made.

Dunno how big yet, bro just bought a 40 gig hard drive video camera so they'll be big. We ressurected Sky pee and this time the data transfer is working (kept falling over last time we tried) but a 650 meg file from him took all bleedin' night (program about the B2, fascinating). This laptop's on 24/7 but my bro turns his pc off most of the time, I think he's worried about it exploding or something.
