(nearly) free 406s!
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Jesus!
You know I thought that the sub £1k market would actually improve in price as I expect more and more people would be in the market for a cheap run around whilst employment is dodgy so demand should be very high?
Conversely, the £8, 9, 10K market seems to be holding out for some reason - no sign yet of any real bargains
Maybe the whole thing will come crashing down in April time?

Re: (nearly) free 406s!
Expect to be hocking the Green Dream come the summer and my first proper pay cheque. 1998 1.9 TDi, 163k, hoping to score 4-500 if I can fix the issue with the fuel line (and maybe service the brakes, replace the windscreen, sort the remote locking, get the sick marks out the upholstery, etc, etc ad infinitum)
From there I'm aiming to pick up a 2.2 HDi estate (or a 2.0 for remapping
) and then, eventually, a V6 saloon as a maintenance/modding project and for beating barrys in races

It will almost certainly conform to Doggy's theorum of car depreciation:Welton wrote:Jesus!

Anything you fancy will hang on to its value amazingly well.

If you find any examples at reasonable prices, they will have serious problems or be sold before you get there.

It will then lose 40% of it's value in the first few months of ownership.

The only way to avoid the trap is to but something worth next to SFA to begin with. The best buys are cars no-one wants, (no offence to Forum members intended).

Luck....
You would be well advised to wait until the next Club outing to Wales or wherever, becuase you may then have a unique opportunity to assess the merits of both HDi estates.swiss wrote:Expect to be hocking the Green Dream come the summer and my first proper pay cheque. 1998 1.9 TDi, 163k, hoping to score 4-500 if I can fix the issue with the fuel line (and maybe service the brakes, replace the windscreen, sort the remote locking, get the sick marks out the upholstery, etc, etc ad infinitum)

Look out for a grey 2.2 estate pursued by an angry looking dude in a blue, remapped 110 Hdi estate. Eh Puggy?

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
