Don't know much about them but tried a 2.0 HDi 110 SW about 5 years ago when it was new. Went reasonably well, but I didn't like the handling too much. Owner reported disappointing mpg - low 40's on motorways.
Spent some time trying to talk myself into one as they were reasonably cheap, but I don't like the 'upright' styling and went for the 406 in the end.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Most opinions I read or hear about 307's are bad ones unfortunately.

If you have a read of this guys website it'll enlighten you further......http://www.crushmy307.co.uk/

It seems that electrical gremlins are the order of the day leading to countless diagnostic visits for the infamous 'repairs/replacement' at the dealers :frown:

If a car gets a bad reputation (whether deserved or not) then it's value is hit hard.

Opinions asside though, with all modern cars there seems to be good ones and bad ones. I had my fair share of trouble with my 406 yet others have had no trouble, at all. :|

My in-laws had a 1.6 petrol, it was sh*t.
My mate had a diesel, it was sh*t.
My other mate's got a diesel estate, it's sh*t!

Nowt really specific but loads of small issues, mostly electrical, door locks packing up, boot refusing to open on the estate, one electric mirror refusing to fold, random and frequent appearences from the MIL on both the diesels, the inlaw's one had water leaking in.... I wouldn't have one.

We've got a 307cc with the 2.0HDi 136bhp and six speed box.

It goes like stink, it'll leave the coupe behind in a standing start. And handles really well. Again, much better than the coupe.

(But looking at the above comments, looks like I'm in the minority)

406 HDi 110 estate of course! Loads to choose from & they're cheap so you can afford to be choosy.
Get a top-spec bargain, enjoy :D

136 HDi - great, but rare and overpriced as a consequence.

110 HDi - prone to DMF problems, a la 406. Not worth the extra dosh over a 90.

90 HDi - the one to have, the most durable and simplest, and the Siemans management is pretty robust.

110 HDi 16v (DV6TED4) - probably the best all round unit to drive, but pricy compared to the 90 and early ones as fitted to the 307 were troublesome, with turbo problems common.

Individual 307s seem to be utterly dire, or completely faultless, with little in between. The chairman and the ex chairman of a large national Peugeot club each own one and after several years have reported the sum total of nob all gone wrong. Find one you like, invest in a thorough AA/RAC inspection, and insist on a good warranty.

The 308 is a far better car in every respect and is proving very robust and reliable (I have one too, brilliant machine) and early ones are fast dropping in price and are a much better proposition than a late 307.
