More road salt = rust problems later?

Post by Welly »

Well our roads are swimming in a mix of water/slush and salt so what about our suspension and underbody's ?? I think I saw on the news that they were going to use a kind of pure salt now with the 'grit' stuff running out, it'll be like the Sea

Oh and so much for the "huge" snowfall yesterday  :(

Doesn't bode well, I guess it's a case of taking a hose to the underbody when it warms up a bit!

I sprayed my suspension parts with a good coating of WD40 before this all started, but when the weather cleans up I think I'll take the wheels off and have a GOOD jet washing session
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Yeah I wanted a load of snow like they said. I was ready for it, I had some work I could do from home, we had provisions, and I bought a Landrover inner-tube from ATS on Saturday for the kids to play on the snow :) living on a steepish hill on a very quiet lane (4 houses) it can be fun.

Can't afford a real sledge? :P

When I was a lad our dad made me and my bro a sledge each - plywood, paint, runners, all off the top of his head. We lived near some good hills with only the odd horse to get in the way, so we were well pleased the day they were finished. That very night some arsehole got stuck in the mud over the road to us, mooched round our garden, nicked our sledges and smashed them to bits to help get his car out :x :x

Charming eh?

I think if I had a go at making an awfentick sledge I'd probably be sued by some parent where a 'slightly protruding 1x1/2" No. 8 countersunk slotted screw' caused wounding

Anyhoo I saw a mans programme once what said a lorry inner tube is da best sledge. ATS offered me a Landy one (as they did with some other guy earlier with the exact same, err, problem) :) funny thing is when it was inflated it blew up like a Doughnut-shaped armchair with an uneven bulging back rest :? - perfect!

Mrs Welly unimpressed, inner tube in garage, might not see action.
