Tyre 'Insurance' pays off....

When I bought the Volvo I was kinda suckered into buying this tyre insurance thing where you get free puncture repairs and replacement tyres (upto 2 per year) for 2 years (subject to policy etc).

At the weekend I spotted a very large thorn/twigg sticking out of the sidewall of (the newest) tyre on the car I gingerly pulled at the thorny brute and sure enough escaped a whisp of air shoving it back in the hole I hastened to read up on said tyre insurance that lead me to understand that if the puncture was irrepairable then a new tyre would be fitted (upto max £200.00 each).

Anyhoo, Kwik-Fit was the approved agent so I went there.....and, well, it works! a couple of phone calls and an all-corners tread depth report to the insurers (all by Kwikies) and the car was shod with £144.00's worth of a Pirelli P7

The policy cost me £139.00 and still has 1 year to run

Oh and Kwikies were good! - each wheel nut torqued up too, and nice sticky-on weights.

Glad you got it sorted, sounds like you did well with that policy.... Knowing my luck I wouldn't have a puncture for 2 years, only when the policy finishes I would get one

Some Kwik-fit's can be ok, there are some dodgy ones around. There is a place called Hi-Q near me, it's a bit like Kwik-fit.... I work for Vauxhall and I get a phone call from them asking for me to tell the customer who comes in asking about locking wheel nuts to stay in the showroom. They had forgot to tighten up the wheel nuts after fitting a tyre! They also snapped the head off the locking wheel nut, leaving the head stuck in the key which cost the customer £30 for a new socket... Nice. So don't go to Hi-Q!

just get puncture safe fantastic stuff fit before the puncture and lasts the life of the tyre,but to be fair wouldnt help with the sidewall as any puncture here and the tyre is scrap.
how do i know this stuff is good ? i install it or supply diy kits.

I forgot to say that Kwikies filled the tyre with Nitrogen too instead of your common 'air'

To be fair they seemed a good bunch down there, as said before some will be better than others

wait until one of your tires are nearly worn down to the limit and stick a big screw in the sidewall , do it again a few months later when you need another one
