A moment of quiet reflection.

Post by stevenlizuk »

After eight years of unrelenting faithful service my Halfrauds trolley jack has finally lifted its last.
It now sits forlornly in a puddle of its own oil .
No-one else has spent as many wasted days off in a wet driveway with me as that jack, it's tragic.

There will be a short service near the recycling skip followed by crap sandwiches at a local hotel.
I'll keep you all posted

I am sorry for your loss, it must be very difficult for you at this time.

I think my Halford's jack was more like 20 years old when it died. I didn't leak though, the internal seals went. I was changing the height of the D9 while I was bleeding the brakes, I had the wheel off and the axle stand out at the time so it got quite exiting... (pumpumpumpumpumpaxlestand!!)

Thank you all for your kind words.
Jack may be gone but I'll always have the oil stain on the driveway to remind me of him.
I'm off to the shed now to try and convince the axle stands that everything will be all right again one day.

Sorry about the loss of a faithful servant.

On a serious note, my brother in law was killed working on his Landrover, he was in the Army in Germany many years ago now, he was a mechanic in the engineers, he was fixing something underneath, removed the axle stands and foolishly went under again without putting the stands back, the jack collapsed, the Landrover fell on him and crushed him.Always put axle stands under the car when working underneath.

It's what he wanted, he was adamant he didn't want to be a burden.
Of course we talked about repair before the end but he said he just wouldn't feel the same afterwards.
Above all he wanted me to go on without him, selfless to the end.

When I take a wheel off of the car I stick it straight under the sill.

Same here. It gives me the willies working under the car no matter how much support it's got. Especially when I've crawled under to the point that just my feet are showing!!
