Which sketch show was it (Hale & Pace?) where he's kerb crawling, pulls up to a likely tart and it's her? "Papa? NIcole?!"

Ive always been pretty anal when it comes to oil changes, in fact i do them more often than i have to.

Modern engines now are not quite capable of these long service intervals. There is no way a modern engine will go years/40k without an oil change and these modern engines are very oil specific specification wise. For example my Megane dCi engine suffers from turbo failures due to the 15k oil changes, also the oil has to be ACEA B4 rated, what ever that is. My work Merc Splinter has 25k service intervals and the oil has to be 0w30 low ash stuff for the DPF. Only time will tell how that pans out.

Oh yeah still no response from my bro.

I suspect that manufacturers have increased the length of their service intervals such that it sounds better.

A 12k service interval sounds better to a prospective buyer than a 5k one, despite the blowing turbos and sticking valves etc.

Alfa Romeo did similar with their timing belt intervals. Initially 72k, now the de-facto interval amongst Alfa owners is 30k.

My volvo's cambelt is 100,000 miles or 10 years :o apparently it's a big fat brute of a belt.

Oil has come a long way since the 80's though and engines run cleaner thanks to precise fuel injection (unless you're an Astra) so the longer intervals were bound to come along.

My car is having an oil change next week for some Castrol SLX 0W/30 (£72.00  ) and this will be dead-on 12 months since the last one - this is very against my usual thoughts of 6-monthly intervals but I just kinda went with it (and I've only done 9000 miles).
