This 406 is nowt but bad luck :(

Post by Bailes1992 »

I'm sure your all read my recent threads about my car. It's had new engine mounts, it's had a new driveshaft, 2 new rear radial arms and a few other bits and bobs. The garage who done it is the garage I did work expereicne with so I thought they would be fairly trust worthy and do everything to a high standard. What I didn't expect was my car to be pushed to the side and take nearly a week to do a half hour job, completly forget to do some things etc etc. After the dilema with my engine mounts my driveshaft went in Nottingham and they took a week to replace this!

Anyway I noticed my cars been snatching out of gears and my boss (mechanic) commented on it yesterday when he took it for a drive. The engine is also very round and lots of vibrations getting into the car. When I break hard sometimes the car pulls to one side which it's never ever done before and when I come back from Swindon I noticed a very slight, infact extreamly slight vibration in the steering.
I changed my fuel filter this morning, was pumping the priming grande and I noticed this...

I started the car up, give it a quick rev and now and behold the cars engines rocking about quite hard. I cannot do that nut up while the mounts still in the engine as theres simply not enough room or leaverage on the spanner. Explains allt he symptoms I've had.

So what do I do? :( Do I take it down tommorow and insist they do it tommorow? Do I take it elsewhere and make them foot the bill?

Jack the engine up slightly on that side.

Further back on that mount is a bolt going in from the other side (you can see the end of it under the hand pump) loosen that a touch and you should be able to get some movement on the whole unit.

You only need a bit of a wiggle and the bolt will be able to slide through.

Car isn't the problem ,it's letting other people do the work for you, get your bloody hands dirty
