Now reduced. Still no answer on the phone though...
If I were after another car right now I'd be grabbing that one! Very nice :)
Was cleaner than that when I sold it (doesn't look like he's touched it) & nobody was interested when I offered it at that price (or lower) even though it included all my accumulated bits & bobs.

The buyer lived in London & according to ASKMID it never got insured. I've a feeling it may be a running costs dodge. Buy a car, run it for a month or so with no insurance, no congestion charge etc.

Sound plausible?

i suppose if it was well waxoiled and kept off beaches/sea water it might have avoided the rust ok, its a shame these old ones are getting rare, the 25/45 that replaced them never felt as nice to sit in.

Soooo, like, the fuel tank's leaking some 'damp' when you fill it with liquid.........the same sort of liquid that catches fire really easily and fails the MOT sort of liquid  still £70.00 for a new tank plus something in the region of £300.00 to fit it sounds like a bargain for a car worth less than a round of drinks :|

Nice Rover. They were at a high then, using Hondas as base cars. If Honda had taken them over they would still be with us, a Rover 75 based on a Legend with a big diesel engine would be an interesting proposition.

BMW chewed them and spat them out, used what they wanted - 4x4 knowledge for their 'X' serieses and kept MINI, left Rover in the lurch with only the 75 as a leaving gift.

I wouldn't call it ugly I'm starting to like the ruler and a hb pencil styling of these old 80's cars.
Honda and rover were better partners, they worked together so well bmw in the first 5 years did feck all to help rover design new cars, the 75 was not enough and was too late. Rover before bmw were not completely made for OAP's but bmw with the 75 made an old persons car.

The 75 design was mostly signed off before BMW were on board, it was an evolution of the 600 design.

However BMW wanted to promote the "pipe and slippers" image, partly because this is a stereotypical image of the UK, and partly because they wouldn't allow any sporting variants to take sales away from their own cars.
Rover got to do some sporting variants when they were independent with the MG Z-cars, including the interesting ZT-V8 (RWD with a Mustang engine) and the ZV sports car. Too little too late when they should've been focusing on the Rover 45 replacement (it was based on the 1992 Honda Domani!)

They were sporty but in the late 80s/1990s there was the 800 fastback, the metro gti, and the tomcat 220 coupe.
Although if rover and honda had stayed, they are both good with petrol engines would they have made good diesels?

Probably not.

In an ideal world they'd have continued what they did with the R8 200/400 and sold PSA diesels, XUDs and HDis.

An old merc diesel:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-E300 ... 653wt_1378
Rip out the grotesque steering wheel, fix the oil leak, get some jacking point caps and remove the reflector plastic on the bootlid and its a great machine for running on vegetable oil.
