I know what you mean about finding the perfect house though. Took us around 30 different viewings to find an apartment in London, which wasn't a rip off, good transport links, not around a murder area, parking spaces, 2 bedroom, modern and clean. Not really a lot to ask for, is there?

I'm not after the perfect house though! It just so happened this one was.

All I'm after is:

1. A garage big enough to do work on a car, not just store boxes in
2. Cats allowed
3. Under £650/month (average rental price seems to be about £350 round here, so there's really not much out of budget)
4. Under 5 miles of Newcastle-under-Lyme
5. Not a shithole

Not a lot is it? Yet I'm checking rightmove roughly 10 times a day, and have been for years

Saw a great new build advertised the other day... Garage about 6 foot wide, with grass in front of the door, and a footpath, hedge and trees between it and the road

I had to leave it outside the shop and walk home because it just wouldn't start. Chances are if it's still where I left it (not a nice area) in the morning, It'll have a snapped fuel flap :/ If I can't start it in the morning think I'll have to hope I can persuade a few friends to jump on a bus and help me push it home. Yay

I don't think it'll get burnt out where it is. I know the car's a shed, but it's do up-able and given it runs (until today) it's a great project car.

I've just been reading this, looks like you're right (and Which? are full of it ) 'cos it looks like a good way to end up homeless and a great deal out of pocket to boot. Ah well, at least you'd be able to "unrepair" it with a sledgehammer before you left

I was thinking there was a way to stop the landord evicting you out of spite but obviously not, it's a long time since I rented and I never had any issues with my landlord (BT Property Services plc )

Aye, I'm starting to think D9s are REALLY BLOODY SENSITIVE to old batteries, and I strongly suspect I need a new one as every time I've had this has been after the car's been stopped a few times in an hour. Started no problem this morning.

Thing is this battery would live forever in a D8. It has no problem whatsoever running the starter, even in gear Guess the D9's just a whole lot more sensitive to minor undervoltage conditions

Renal properties here are really competitive at the moment - If you are paying 350 squid (my keyboard doesnt have the pound symbol) - Thats bloody cheap for Sydney. Average rentals in a decent suburb is $2200 a month AUD - thats a fair bit of cash for us considering average earnings are high, but not that high! Do the math and the UK works out cheaper! Property is very expensive in Sydney...

That said, it sucks having a dodgy landlord. My mate had a place and the landlord kicked him out with only 4 weeks notice. In the scheme of things, thats not much time to pack everything up, find a new place and move everything whilst still juggling family obligations and full time work!

Oh and on that note - did you find out the problem with the gearbox? Is it a BE3 or the later one?

Gearboxes suck - especially when mine went bang @ 155,000km! Shouldn't be too hard to get one from a scrapper...?
