Re: Another bargain!

Post by rwb »

I don't know, ones without faults are advertised typically at over £1k even if they're quite shabby. That red saloon I looked at for £400, in hindsight definitely a bargain, but I was disappointed the bodywork (and I have no room to talk) and aghast at how worn the interior was.

Colour is of course a matter of taste. I was actually surprised that mine (Samarkand) isn't particularly popular.
That said, I think Peugeot colurs have always been pretty good: they make other marques look either dull or garish.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

I like that there browny/creamy colour, looks a lot better in the flesh. I've seen a few in my time.

It's a sad fact that most 406's bodywork is getting a bit tatty now, it's bound to after 10 or so years of car parks and scrapes and it doesn't help that the panels dent very easily :frown:

Conversely I bet if you found a minter it will be a mechanical nightmare (a bit like mine was actually).

A while since this one was updated now. Used to get a new addition on a daily basis!

Know it isn't a Pug, but I do think this is suspiciously cheap & am a little shocked that the Buy It Now hasn't been used:

I would've thought it'd be a struggle to find a hard top M3 for that & I've seen good condition regular (not M-Sport) convertibles advertised for similar money.

Was talking to rwb about his sat nav... Didn't realize that they no longer update the software for it. So the maps are WELL outdated for them...
So... to say, it's OK if you are lost is kind of an over statement. Depends if you happen to be lost on a new road / area / estate that wasn't built back then you're probably still fooked.

Even if the maps were as up to date as possible the 406 's sat nav is poop, it can really only direct you with a big arrow the display cant show maps in the detail a phone screen can

EVERYONE has always said on here that the 406 Sat Nav is royally shyte. I guess that's what gumtree man was hinting at; it's crap but if you're lost it's better than nothing :|

When you say it's awful what are you comparing it to? Current sat navs that are 10 years newer? Seems like a silly comparison to me.
I like the sat nav. For 2002 it's pretty good.
I don't get the arrow and "follow the heading" very often. (Although I have a 2005 disc.)
It's good enough that I don't spend ages studying maps before I set off any more.
Even so, these things are only for guidance.

If nothing else, it's worth having for the better screen: higher resolution and two trip counters plus instantaneous readout.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Problem is rwb - it seems people with those screens are having much troubles with the screens developing the lines down them .... :(
I am in the process of putting a new battery in my bitch in a box (old school sat nav, but as you guys say, better than nothing)
My sat nav is only 1 year newer than your software rwb :)
New battery cost £7 which is significantly cheaper than I could get a decent sat nav. I am able to update the maps but Navman apparently stopped selling them for such an ancient model
I must hunt around on Flea-bay, but last time I looked even the newer software was £20, including cables and well..... £20 is £20 I'd rather spend elsewhere
