mmm, maybe it was just the extra weight, I agree that the 406 would hang on in there for dear life and I pulled off some great moves in it but I suppose it felt a bit splodgy and didn't really encourage that sort of thing :|

Its the weight that lets the 406 down as far as an aggressive driving machine is concerned, the steering could be more encouraging too. However its never fair to compare past and present. It terms of the cars in its class of relatively the same age the 406 is alot heavier, talking about VW Boras, Seat Toledos etc. However the 406 is a heck of a lot better equiped, more comfortable and roomier. This is where it gains the extra weight. I believe that a stripped out 406 would make an awesome track car.

In terms of the 405, it was a driving machine and I embarrassed many quicker cars due to the sheer grip and drivability of the thing. Like someone before said, it inspires you to push it on 8) I didnt own an Mi16 but here's a pic of my D-Turbo, note the Mi16 wheels 8)

Actually, I started this reply in fairly good spirits about the 406 but now.....anyone know where I could get another 405?

Yeah, here's a little nugget of BTCC info: If I remember correctly Peugeot are the only manufacturer with a works team which failed to win a single BTCC race with either the 405 or 406 :frown:

That's because Peugeot was the only manufacturer with a works team that used the 405 or 406. :P

Seriously though, I think they were race winners in other countries, it's just that the British series was so competitive. I'm pretty sure they picked up a couple of odd wins with the 406 Coupe when they changed the Formula after 2001, but I lost interest when they left the old Supertouring rules.

The 405 couldn't have been too bad a car - James Thompson was mixing it with the works big boys in a 2 year old 405 when he first entered as a privateer in 1995.

8) 8) 8) I would of loved a 405 mi 16. At the time I was more into my gti's. The main thing that got me into pug's was the 405. My parents had a mint 1.9 Gri basically the same lump you would find in a 205/309 gti. And yes those Xu lumps were fantastic!!!! They owned this car for nearly 20 yrs but a bloody jcb hit it and wrote it off    car was mint   .

My last Gti was a mint fast road/track car. A pug 205 Mi16 on twin webber 45's using 309 gti suspension to give it a wider track. The car was 91 spec although it had the gti 6 box fitted   it would crack 0 to 60 in a little over 5 sec and top speed it would go off the clock    It  had around 230bhp same power to weight as a ferrari.

And yes there was the lion king 405 T16 4x4 remember reading about these in 2001. it was launched in 1993 and only 6 were shipped to the uk. still have the print off with all the info     new it would cost around £30,000. As standard it had 200bhp with over boost to 220bhp. 0 to 60 was around 6.9 sec and around 25mpg.

I still think the 405 design looks fresh 8) 8) 8) mmmm sierra or cavalier sir?
