Can any meterologist explain why there is less snow here, or is it just me thinking this.
Couldn't agree more. I can never understand why so much complaining is done here over the head of a bit of snow. I was heading over to Maghera tonight along a backroad which had frozen over and was a bit slidey, however why the jeep in front of me insisted on doing 15mph on a long straight bit was beyond me, i decided to overtake which is a weird sensation in snow because you can't punch the accelerator to go past, you have to gently encourage acceleration over a good distance. It is a great feeling overtaking a 4x4 in the snow in a big french saloon :D

Back to the snow, I can almost see the people being interviewed on BBC Newsline now... 'Awk that snow is shockin, I've never seen the like of it since 1970 something or other....'

Left home at 2am this morning and it was -5

Did 35 mile from hinckley up M69 and M1, got to Nottingham, and it came down big time
5 mile up the road, and we was down to one lane
Slipped out to the second lane at J28 so had some momentum for the hill, as others were down to about 20mph
Arse end was fish tailing a tad as it kept trying to spin up
Got over brow of hill, and must of been getting on for around 20 jack knifed or span out artics southbound.

Hit the border with Yorkshire and still snowing, but all 3 lanes of M1 were open.
Obviously, the Nottinghamshire county council haven't heard of gritting.

Came back and M1 was closed at J29 because of the jack knifed lorries.
Hit back of queue 400 yards from J29a and whilst generally I don't agree with being cheeky and using the hard shoulder, it was only 400yards.

Road ran more or less alongside M1 for a bit, then we headed off to the right, and a bit further down the road, M1 sign came up, and a number of other vehicles turned off that way. My mate asked me why we weren't going that way. I said it takes you to J29, that is where it's closed, so traffic will be horrendous there.
Went into Chesterfield, and down the A61 to the A38 - I also experienced a number of peeps only doing 15mph - yes, show some reservation but as already said, on a straight bit of road, come on!
Got to A38 and that was solid, as planned to get on it to J28, so had to go other way and pick up A610
Must of done 30 mile to avoid a 15 mile stretch.
But god knows how long I could of sat on M1 waiting to get off at J29

Anyway coming back down, hit leicestershire and all 3 lanes of motorway are usable again.

Maybe these national cutbacks mean Nottinghamshire only can afford to send gritters out after it's snowed, otherwise that means they could spend money on sending the gary's out, and if didn't snow, they'd of wasted resources and cost money.
I'm sure the hundreds of people stranded on the M1 could see the sense in that

these people who insist on doing 10-15 mph are the reason that the whole damn country comes to a halt when we have an inch of snow
then they wonder why they get stuck. when it snows i take the back lanes to work instead of sitting in traffic for an hour and a half to cover a distance which would usually take 15 mins. coz i know no one else will go down the back roads, yes they aint gritted but its still quicker coz i can drive in the snow unlike (it seems )90% of the population
apparently the south is gonna have it bad come wednesday next week but we will see :supafrisk:

Here in North Yorks its snowed every day since Wednesday. Been greeted with a good few inches of the sh*t every morning. Board to death of it now.

Scarborough BC said that they won't have a repeat of last years Nightmare on the roads but so far every day the roads have not been gritted, snow ploughed yes but not gritted. Seems to me that they are scared that they will run out before the end of winter if they start gritting now. idiots

its about 5 inches here at the mo, but forecast for -18 from tomorrow night and snowing every day, my two tonne sledge isnt coping as well as it should, i think i will have to just stump up for super pricey winter tyres now and get my chunky ones in january :(

still need to grab some fuel additive as well the garages dont sell the full winter blend diesel till january im told  coz thats when it gets really cold, talk of another -30 and lower january like last year
