You are so right!

I regret my lpg truck purchase but it was cheap, and that about sums me up

Problem 1. Basically it lacks the torque! If you have a 406 estate on the back and some numpty in his nissan micrs cuts you up, it takes bleedin' ages to pull youyr speed back up!
Problem 2. It sounds sh*t!
problem 3. Wondering around the country, looking for a filling station that sell it, having to detour around in the hope that you dont run out, and if you do. It's 8 mpg time on the little bit of fuel have have in there just to get it to pissing start.
Problem 4. MpG is down anyway by 20-30% on what it actually does in petrol mode so it's actually thristier than you think!
Problem 5.Performance is down by atleast 20% I dont care what anybody say's
Problem 6. The engine cant stand the extra heat and keeps burning piggin' valves out, which is where my truck is at the moment, in my piggin' unit with the piggin' head off for the piggin' secocond time in the last 6 months!

Give me friggin' diesel PLEASE! I dont care if it only does 25mpg!

my dad drives my pug too often, the nissan he says lacks the lift, i believe he is referring to torque. The nissan has 120bhp, and the peugeot has 110 the torque makes the difference. But 120bhp from a 1.8 16v engine especially something from japan where they are supposed to be good at eeking extra power out of engines. One suggestion im making for him is to get an audi with a 1.8 turbo engine one of them would be good for lpg.

I had a 1.8 Turbo Audi A4 this... last year 2010  . was good on power, fuel needel moved too quickly for my liking!!

Don't get me wrong, I dont mind the fule neelde moving a lot if I got some seariously big power! It was quick but not quick enough for what I could get out of it!

I had an lpg system fitted to a Grand Cherokee a few years ago, and it never run right after that! Got sick of it cutting out at round-a-bouts. I was told it was the lambdar sensor by the fitter!

That didnt cure it! Got a sensible offer and it was somebody elses prob, didnt find out what the answer was.

But the Volkswagen truck was cheap! So I bought it

Thats problem 7. Who do you go too when it starts pissing about??

Mechanic 1 says "it's yer lpg system

Mechanic 2 says it's your regular fule system!!

Nobody wil commit them selves unless they think you've got a bottomless walet.

Unless you are able to sort it out your self, stick with the regular manufacterer's fueling systems.

Thats my future moto.

I mean £1500 for a fittin' bill, to save what ?

i know a man that had the early 90s boxy cheorkee 4.0s with lpg and they worked fine, one man fitted it himself, it depends on who fitted them.

i've been told the the 4.1 Jeep engine thrives on the stuff!

Just thoutht of problem 8. the fuel gauge you get consist's of a litle black box forced into your dash board by digging a rectangular hole for it! any where that suit the fitter!
it's got 3 green lights and a red one for when it' running empty. it's very vague and you really need to note your milage, as consumtion is pretty consistant(until a valve burns out then it's tripple fold limping home) but if you have a good memory for figures, it's a doddle, much better than the fule gauge on your display binicle yeah right!

The best problem is problem 9. whicjh I just thought of. A guy came around to mine the other day in a beautiful D8 coupe in provance lite metallic blue, and asked me if i thought it looked nice and I said I loved it apart from that silly black lpg cap stuck in the middle of the rear quarter, that ruind the car for me!. It's a v6 he said i need to save money. O.k I said It's just spoils a beautiful car in so many way's.

I will also say something else here!

On 2 occasions I have drove off a petrol station with the hose still attached! and it's very embarresing! It takes so long to fill up, and you lock in, you sometimes for get especially if your tired and done some serious miles.

I have heard tails of people taking the back wing out of there car!

With me ,with the truck, I just simply drove off with half the fuel pipe quick release mechanism

ah yes the driving off with the pipe, ive seen it happen, theres some splitting point in the pipe so lpg doesnt spray everywhere. The box that you end up with in the dash is a bit obtrusive, you really need to specify where you want it, and its useless as a fuel gague as it works off the gas pressure. But you can get the lpg cap painted to suit the cars colour, and mounted in a low unseen place, i believe renault are the only company who have a blanking plate beside the fuel filler cap on some cars to make the fitting of an lpg nozzle easier. Range rover classics are another good machine for the conversion, the rover v8 is easy to convert i hear.

my 406 from when the reserve light comes on it costs roughly £70 to brim the tank, and when everything is working as it should i get around 400miles to the tank, not the best/not the worst (i think) but it does me
Previous Car: S reg 406 SRi 2ltr Turbo - Petrol with 109,000 on the clock

Current Car: Renault Megane 1.6 16v Sport Coupe with 89,000 on the clock

I never trusted the gauge

I used to get 200 miles to 100 litres but if I booted it, it went down to 170 miles, so I tried never to do more than 170 without refuelling
Used to have to download the lpg garage list every couple of weeks, and often ended up with 50 or 60 pages of A4 in the cab with me

The normally aspirated V8 rover needs to be run on petrol at least once a week otherwise the floats in the carb stick, and then the engine will be very difficult to run on petrol

I don't know if i've mentioned this before but...........

Years back we didn't have fuel cards and the boss used to give us a tad more in cash than what we needed to cover the job we was doing.
Had to go from Hinckley to Congleton to do a delivery and he gave me about £20 to cover the fuel
Think I only had £20 on me anyway
As coming back out of Congleton, he rang me to say one of the customers needed a collection doing urgent from scotland
just so happens I was in the LDV400 with the lpg on, and it was a luton van, and the transits we ran weren't quite long enough to get the crate in
He asked me where the gas stations were, and rang them to arrange making payment for fuel
He rang sandbach so could get a full tank, and gretna green
I asked him how far from gretna green the destination was and he said 85mile , thus a 170mile round trip
Not a problem I thought
Turns out this place was up the coast from stranraer and wasn't 85 mile but 115
On way back kept trying to switch it over to petrol but wasn't having it
Ended up pulling into a town putting £10 of petrol in it - no lpg stations that part of scotland
Phone had gone flat and had kip for half hour
This allowed the gas to dissipate, which improves the chances of firing on petrol
Luckily got it going but a bit rough
Got to gretna and guy in petrol station beckoned me over and said boss was on phone
He was just about to send a recovery truck out to try and find me :cheesy:
ANyway fuelled up there and got down to sandbach but they refused to let me fuel up as guy we'd arranged it with had gone home
Had to drive to stafford services and give it sob story and they let me have £10 emergency fuel with arrangement to pay

Have to agree with drop in economy
Person who fitted our system said we should get 12-14 to the gallon, but we only got 8-9!!

I believe the latter fuel injected rover V8's actually have better fuel economy on gas than on petrol

Yes, was about that when we ran the LDV400

Think we even managed to negotiate a discount from the local ford dealer as they switched all their parts vans over to LPG and had a big tank installed
We were going to do the same, and suggested that the amount of fuel we were using it would still be advantageous to give us a 2p a litre discount, and they did

Used to be virtually half price of petrol but now is that plus 10p in most places I see

Duty was kept at a low level for a guaranteed 5 years
guess that period is now over
