I must have been unlucky with my 1999 exec HDi..........

Between 96K and 130K miles.......

3 x No Starts (lift pump)
2 x AA call-out's (snapped front spring and then a dead lift pump)
1 x Mystery dead engine (suspect crank sensor, re-started soon after)
Numerous Limp-Homes (at least 6)
Snapped rear spring (down on one side)
Dead radiator Fan
Two knackered A/C conny's
Engine Mount
CAT/Flexi
EGR
I/C hose (see engine mount above)
Bottom Pulley (limp-to-garage with crossed fingers)
Every-single part of the eggsauce system fell off or rotted through at some point
Knackered rear ARB mounts
Slipping clutch and chirpy DMF (chirpy in a bad way)
Total sun-blind failure :(
Disappearing engine tray

But - it never leaked any water 8) the interior was bone dry

Indeed, I had to let it go in the end, to a Frenchman as it goes, funnily enough he bought a very straight car considering I'd lavished at least £2,000.00 on it.

I think the second A/C failure did it for me, oh and the strong smell of Diesel fuel developing. Bought a 4 year old Volvo which has been faultless, if somewhat costly on the old HP :frown:

Air filters
Pollen filters
Fuel filter
Oil filters
Spark plugs
2x Inlet manifold gaskets*
Throttle body gasket*
PAS fluid
High pressure PAS pipe
2x clutch slave cylinders*
Lower air intake pipe*
Metal ring in air filter box jammed the throttle wide open on the autobahn
2x clutches
Clutch release fork end caps*
Driveshaft nuts*
Dipstick*
Washer fluid bottle cap*
Gearbox driveshaft oil seals (2x output, 1x input collar)*
Top engine mount*
Gearbox engine mount*

Driveshaft heat shield*
Paid for someone to slice open the chassis, weld up a subframe captive nut, then weld it back together again
Amplifier
Wiper blades
Wiper arms
New overhead console
Auto-dimming mirror
o/s wing mirror
Front door speakers
Rear tweeters
Coil pack
Wheelarch liners
Wheelarch liner screws*
Undertrays (not the main one)
Citroen mist washer jets*
Front brake hoses*
Gearbox oil (several loads!)
Bulbs. Lots of bulbs.
4x Firestone TZ300A tyres at £90 each (damn 'W' speed rating)
Battery
Battery earth straps*
Battery cover
Crankshaft pulley
Aux belt*
New aux belt tensioner (£160 or so!)*
Cruise control valve*
Ashtray replaced
Front drop links (lots!)
Front anti-roll bar bushes

Stupid plastic bits from behind the wing mirrors

...and umpteen million hours labour including cleaning stuff that'll never be seen again
££££££ in tools including PP2000, 540Nm impact wrench, half of Halfords Professional range, etc
££££££ in cleaning products including Karcher, snow foam lance, sander...
££££££ in little things like screws, etc*

* = bought from dealer

Needs:
New duct tape for the rear bumper
Clunking sorting (think it might be a wishbone ball joint)
New shock absorbers
New suspension springs
New strut bearings (may as well while doing the suspension)
Rear drop-links
Rear anti-roll bar bushes
New citroen mist washer jets (mine got cracked by ice )
New handbrake cables and centre adjuster
New rear brake backplates
n/s headlamp is broken on its mounting point meaning it doesn't adjust properly (still within MOT limits, but not pleasant!)
New battery
Sump needs re-sealing. Will do next oil change
New rear bumper, new rear lights (bought, not fitted) and some panel beating on the n/s/r quarter after the Nurburgring whoopsie
New n/s foglamp
New gearknob
New lighter socket
New cat
New engine sensors
Diag socket needs "fixing" with something which won't disappear into the dashboard when trying to plug something into it without the fuse panel down and a hand shoved up behind it...
Front Brembo calliper bleed nuts (I don't think they'll survive another bleed)
Steering wheel
New garage floor paint

You'd be shocked at how much of the above didn't/doesn't actually need doing ...and I thought I might sell it for a 540 touring with this (OVERDUE ) baby coming along ... NOT A CHANCE! This is love

It's no wonder the guys at the local stealers know me by name and say I'm their most "regular" non-trade customer...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Suspect you overlooked a certain PP2000 system (and maybe a 10A mini fuse).

When is/was sprog due?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Bought my 406 off ebay for 1500 quid as a sort of stop gap as i had sold my Ibiza Cupra to release funds for a house deposit. Kept it over 2.5 years. Its been gone 3 years now and i still miss it.

flippy neck that's a long list mjb

From memory: throttle potentiometer, aux tensioners, two aux belts, bottom pulley, filters, two sets of wipers, discs & pads all round, a set of tyres, a battery (that wasn't needed)

I spend £850 last year, mainly on the cambelt etc. & key barrel aerial.

So far this year the front bumper fell off at one side and is now sporting a big blob of glue. £25.
The radio only works on long wave.
I've got "ABS brake system defective" and I reckon I've got a water leak

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.
