------------------------------------------------------------------ REASONS FOR REFUSAL OF A TEST CERTIFICATE:
001 Front passenger door cannot be opened from outside the vehicle (this has been sticky since Blue406 and I put the silver door handles on - I can probably sort that myself)
002 Offside side repeater not working (no sh*t, it got hit by a van)
008 Nearside rear upper Suspension arm has slight play in a pin/bush
009 Both front tyres scrubbed on inner edges (well the front tyres are f*cked anyway, but I guess this means the tracking is also out)
------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got them to go get me a quote for the work required to pass the MOT.

that really sounds worse than it is tbh, the parts wont be that much and shouldnt take to long to fix longest job there is the brake pipe

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

Yes, but unfortunately Graeme is in the same boat as me for having to get the garage to do the work & getting stung for labour charges. My honest opinion - stick on Ebay as spares or repairs. Petrol 406 saloons go for sweet FA these days - even with low mileage like yours. That added to the early D9 poverty spec & the accident damage means that you could end up paying a bomb to get it roadworthy only to wind up getting not that much more for it afterwards. At least selling it spares or repairs there's a chance that someone who can do the work themselves may offer a decent amount for it.
At the end of the day, even if you only get a couple of hundred quid as is, it'll still be more than you're getting for it sat outside your place doing nothing & at least you're not down any more money. Failing that, break it yourself. A few of the interior parts will still be useable for your coupe & you can still make a few quid back on odds & ends like the alloys, spoiler, exhaust, lights etc.
Is there any chance the exhaust will fit your coupe?

No idea, I'm afraid. I know very little about cars, mechanically, and almost nothing at all about exhausts (other than stainless steel = win)
I can't break the car myself - primarily because I live on a 1st floor flat and have no garage or reserved parking space for myself. I'm actually breaking the rules by having 2 cars as it is, but nobody's grassed me up to the Housing Association (yet). The other reason is because I haven't the heart to do it myself - I love the car too much
I will wait to see their quote, and go from there.
Steve - no, this isn't the same garage as last time. No suit that time, no suit this time

And perhaps a couple of part worn tyres (do they do "most worn" tyres?). You do need to sit down and "do the math" before you spend another penny, remember it's just a lump of metal that's doing its best to return to its original form (i.e. rust) and you owe it naught.
It might be worth asking flowerpoe about the exhaust. Or flog it - ask them what else it'll fit while you're there.
005 Offside rear upper Suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush
the other bits you can diy,
My old mk2 mondeo had 3 pages of failures and isorted it,
no point breaking cars anymore unless youve got storage space & somewhere to break it and alot of time waiting for buyers for parts
Garage called and quoted £173.50 (ex. VAT) for parts, not including the cost of the tyres (they quoted £116 ex VAT for a pair of new 195/65/R15s), or the 3.5 hours labour.
I seriously doubt I'll get her fixed. I wish I had the disposable income available, but I don't. I'm definitely leaning toward the idea of taking it to the local breakers and asking them to give me the wheels and the exhaust off it. Will decide by Monday (unless someone here wants to make me an offer for the car as-is).

He's in Manchester, but at £170 for a clutch change, it's worth driving up for.
