the d4d is ultra reliable but ive never heard one thats quieter than a hdi
park your car next to one with the engine running and next to one thats running and you will see what imean.

when your sat in your 406 with the windows up can you hear the engine ticking over ?

Ah
with the windows up the hdi isnt really that loud, of course theres a rumble from the front that distinguishes it as being in operation but overall its quite quiet something a tdi cant do.
And yes it does whistle, its quite a whisltey engine.
Sometimes if you have the hdi running with the bonnet open and rev it in a certain way, i think i can hear a bit of the XUD in there.

The Insignia looks awesome - from the 1000's I saw in London! I wish they sold them here, would make a nice 406 replacement in manual diesel form!

The D4D's are decent motors - shame they are affixed to such dull cars.

The offending Insigna just turned up again, and its definitely louder than either the Renault Koleos, the Ford Focus TDCi, or any of the neighbours' three HDi 406s.

However, it's no match for the XUD 306 that parks across the road: that sounds like a tin bucket full of nails being shaken vigorously. I love it.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Is it an Izuzu engine, or is it come ecotec-based GM mess with a clay block and ricepaper head gaskets?

Thought they were Fiat JTD's in disguise....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

my uncles insignia is a ball of shite, it already needed 2 front pretensioners and an airbag, and it needs to go to the dealer for an oil change because there is so many shitty coves under it and it needs a computer to reset the light.
He is thinking of getting rid of it.

Ahy the undertray but its a tricky bugger to get off, and you still need to go to the dealer to reset the light
its not a bad car but as diesels go its not exactly class leading, and the dash just doesnt seem as good as what youd get in the mondeo, or an audi.
The other uncle owns a honda accord diesel thats a much better car despite being 5 years older.

A think Vauxhall no longer take the Undertrays off to change the oil they just Extract the oil from the dip stick tube,
if there anything like the Late vetras u can Reset the Service warning by opening the Bonnet, and holding the Trip button in and turn on ign, they count down just like the 406s,
not sure on the Insignias tho but its worth a try if you get Bored lol,

its been to the dealers and they had done it, my uncle had asked me if i could reset the light (the problem with the pp2000 is people dont know its just peugeot/citroen).
its a good enough car for a vauxhall, but im not a fan of their stuff.

Vauxhall lead and software is easy enough to get hold of,
ithink iused something called optec, you can even give the Mileage a hair cut with it,
ithink every poxhall owner shouid have the kit, save on stealer fees,

ichanged the oil and filter on a vauxhall not long back ithink there was around 18 10mm bolts to remove to get the undertray off,
iwill invest in one of them syphon tube things me thinks it saves alot of messing, 8)
