Lordy, the replies certainy piled up while I wasn't looking  Thanks for the welcome guys! I'm at my dad's working, so every time I put the computer on to look at anything he turns it off the moment I walk away from it, so between that and doing family stuff I'm not getting much chance to see what's going on here. I have some pics, nothing amazing though. So far I've had the front r/h wheel off and found that in my dad's vast collection of tools there's no T55 to get the caliper off  I've got one at home of course  So, off to Car Spares, no loose ones so we bought a socket set containing one, get it home & open it up top find it-s got some weird drive (not square, round?? What possible use is that???? ) and the supplied wrench would probably break if we tried to use it (89ft-lb + threadlock) so we'll need to get another today. Meanwhile I've had the back bumper off and found that, along with a small amount of damage, the main reason it didn't sit right and moved about was...... half the bolts were missing :| Anyway, it now sports a perfect Samarkand (sp?) rear bumper. I've had the seats out (easy but boring) and given it a good hoover. I've also found the fuel pump seal is weeping, nothing disasterous and hopefully it'll be ok until I get home 'cos it's too late to do anything about it. In a moment I'll start fitting the new seats, I'm just satuffing my face now so I thoiught I'd have a squint at the old forums.
waue1978 wrote:Will I be seeing you Steve or are you planning on dumping the bits & telling me to pick them up sharpish?
The plan (at the moment anyway) is to come to you with the stuff on Monday - if you're not about I should be able to leave it all at my mate's gaff for you.
DiscoPol wrote:How was the drive over? its an easy enough distance to do in one go.
I could probably manage it in one go but I have a feeling I'd be doing zombie impressions by Dunkurk (I miss my spelling checker :frown: ), two days I think would be better for me, three days has given us lots of time to wander about and take a look at the scenery which I'm not too fussed about (although the catherderal in Regensburg was stunning, as was the waitress with the big boobies that served us dinner in the resteraunt opposite  )

I have a few tales to tell of my drive over which I will relate at a later date. See you later!!

Hope your journey was safe!

At least in England you have 3 lane motorways, over here the motorways are mostly 2 lane, so the middle lane hoggers become the outside lane hoggers!

Driving standards are ridiculously low, no-one has any pride in their driving, just any lane and if anyone contravenes any of their made up rules in their head, its all horn blaring and shouting.

Maybe a 5/10 year retest isn't that bad an idea after all.

Few of us offer post-406 rehabilitation.
Might not be as elegant or practical, but there is life after 406.

what mostly happens is one lorry overtakes another, and your stuck behind them bleeding things.

Bugs the sh*t out of me when they do that too. When I do my Friday night runs I'm sat at 50 nearly all the way (mostly dual carriageway where LGVs have a 50mph speed limit) & even when I do come across one going slower, I usually back off until there's nothing waiting to pass. It's embarrassing looking in the mirrors & seeing how many people you're holding up.

are all lorries limited to around 50-56mph, if your doing 70 and you see a lorry tailgating you is it speeding.

Most are limited to 56, but a few of ours are set to 52. All UK lorries were limited to 56mph sometime in the 90s I think, but they'll still hit over 60 going downhill as I found on my first trip out. Some drivers will circumvent the limiter, but they're on borrowed time doing that because they'd get caught eventually.

Legal speed limits are:
Motorway - 60mph
Dual Carriageway - 50mph
Single Carriageway - 40mph

in all fairness my speedo is ok, the garmin sat nav reads the same as my speedo.
406 speedos are much better than the 405 ones which looked as if they were being held by an alcoholic.
