Seen a few around and was wondering!
Exactly the same engine.

Though the C5 isn't based on the 406 floorpan, the 407 was based on it, the 406 was based on the Xantia floorpan.

Very comfortable cars, but the mk1 C5 I test drove the interior felt a bit more plasticy than the Xantia, and it had enough warning lights I thought I was in the China Syndrome.

Don't worry about suspension, as easy to renew as 4 oil filters, and the pipes these days last forever.
The brakes and steering are no longer on the same circuit if that was a concern, although on the Xantia it always had a reserve anyway.

You could sell the 406 on Gumtree:

Its the darker blue colour yeah...

What bit do you mean by wing bumper? The rubber strip?

Bonnet has a few chips in it but wasnt touched in the shunt!

Sirwiggum - cheers for the info will look into the idea further, as it is another route for me to perhaps go down!

I havent heard from the insurance company, need to find out if the guy has reported it to his insurance company yet, and what the assesor thinks of the car......

Did you get the police / witnesses?

In my experience of writing cars off, the other party didn't bother reporting to his insurance until legal action was threatened.

Even at that, if they went to court, what would they be charged with?

"You had a crash!"

"No I didn't! Was barely a scratch! It'll T-Cut out!"

i think it is the same engine, but you get a bit more equipment in the citroen (hydropneumatic suspension, double sun visors, dual zone climate control) and lower insurance ratings. It all boils down to if you like the looks of the c5

Can i just say at this point that i think the C5 prior to the new model is possibly one of the ugliest cars i have ever seen.

if choosing between an original c5 and 406 your choosing between very comfortable but bad looking with the c5, or just as comfortable and very good looking and a more direct feeling drive with the 406.
Although the insurance ratings seem to give the c5 a bit of an advantage.

I used to not be a fan of the mk1 C5, as I had a Xantia and thought it was the better looking car.

However, I have grown to like the look of the C5. Certainly not as good looking as the 406, or the latest C5, but when compared to the contemporary Vectra, it is similar and at least slightly more distinctive.

Looks a bit better in a darker colour with the bodycoloured mouldings.

And the facelift mk1.5 brought it in line a bit with the rest of the Citroen line with better looking lights.
