Get yourself a ph1 or bosch converted ph2 diesel turbo, same xud lump as the 406, they last forever.

We've just sold our 5th 306 turbo diesel. Kept trying other things (astra td, corsa sxi, 206, etc) and always went back to a 306 derv.

Only sold it as the 3rd sprog will be here quite soon and you can't fit 2 adults, 3 kids, a dog cage & a pram in a hatchback!

The old 306 saloons were like a mini-406.

Much better than the 307.

I had a couple of the sister car, the ZX. One hatchback in XUD that I had for 4 years, and got given an XUDT estate that I ran for about 6 months as a spare car.

Both great cars, very reliable. Surprisingly good handling and ride comfort.
About the only ones left now are Volcanes ruined by boy racers.

Pug306.net is probably the forum to be on for the 306, a lot of banter, but a friendly bunch! :)

Their premium membership comes with tons of useful information too.

The XUD powered Dturbos can be bloomin quick too, hybrid T25 turbos and the like! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvW_pPt0s0E#t=18s

wipipedia says the boxer uses an iveco diesel engine, as for the 605 it doesnt say much about the engine other than it had 127 bhp, the XM says engine code DK5, i know the 2.5 engine in my uncles old 505 is called and XD engine but it never had a turbo and is apparently quite slow.

it would be great to have some more info about the other diesel engines peugeot made that were not XUD's, although the xud series has been the best.

The boxer was the same as a Fiat Ducato, Fiat own Iveco (which make large vans), so possible they used their engines.

Early Peugeot / Citroen / Fiat / Talbot (could get a Talbot van well into the 90s) vans used XUDs.
My dad once had a Fiat Ducato camper with a 2.0 Peugeot engine pulled from a 405.

DK5, was a DJ5 in the 605?

The other diesel that I am aware of is a TUD, of the TU family, used in 1.5 variety for the 106, AX, Saxo, Metro/100 and Micra!

No doubt if tax then was now, they'd try and shoehorn it in the 406!

The boxer came with a 2.5 diesel. Badged up as the 2.5idi or 2.5TD and it was based around the XUD, not a clue what other cars it was in.

Ducato got a 2.8 TD - mother's company had both. Probably still has them, just not using them. Currently has 2.2HDi Citroen Relays for the smaller vans.

Pffft - the 2.5TD is ancient...dates back to the 505 days IIRC!

As for the other choices out there - GTI-6 or nothing.

Here's what a 306 1.9 XUD can do if you throw enough money at it, and apparently it had pump issues too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbpN4XnJg48#t=1m36s

He pulled over 200bhp on his last engine. But this one he's had hell with. I think he's going for a 2.0 Hdi 306 engine with a 16v head off the newer HDi's and a mehcanically controlled pump now.
