That's because it's a genuine purpose-built competition racer. It set a record in the 1988 Pike's Peak Hillclimb.

Progress :cheesy:

New balljoints:

Get some torque on that sucka

New balljoint torqued in, staked and fitted with new dust covers:

Rebushed and painted rear leading arms and brackets:

All stripped out ready for new stuff. I popped the driveshaft out for easyness and just changed the gearbox oil and seal while I was there :cheesy:

Image

New lower arms, balljoints, trackrods, drop links, genuine discs and EBC Greenstuffs :cheesy:

Image

Now she goes to Pro Grip to be professionally tracked:

Suffice to say the car feels 110% rejuvenated. The handling is awesome, not awesome for a 14 year car, but just awesome. Very pleased with the Greenstuffs, the brakes have brutal stopping power :cheesy:

Got a V6 steering wheel as well :cheesy:

Next up, some sill welding :(

Awesome to see another D8 being saved from the crusher! Even here - they are starting to get a bit "thin" on the ground!

So what's the plans with the bodywork?

Well the sills were previously patched 2 years ago, but whoever has done it hasn't primed or painted any of the metal, so the repair is falling to bits :( I'm going see if I can cut some good sills off a scrapper and take it from there.

He buys a car for a £1000, spends £900 in parts, and is chuffed cause he is up £100.

It's alright if you're like him and have a mechanic in slavery. Everywhere else it's abolished and they can charge £80 an hour!

He used to present a program called "Driven" a few years ago as well, it quickly disappeared from the air waves. What is it with motoring shows and irritating presenters? 5th gear springs to mind.

I must admit, whilst the car cost £375, I have spent around £500-£600 on parts. This does include 4 new decent tyres though. That nearly ballances out with the fuel savings running on WVO.......£480 so far

I promosied no more work for 2 weeks, but I did give it a cheeky oil and filter change, and remove the recirc motor that was creaking and misting up my windows

The point behind the show is that *you* are the mechanic - by showing you roughly how to perform these jobs, you don't need to take the car to a mechanic.

I reckon if I had access to a ramp like Ed China does, and had all the tools that he has, then maybe I could do a bit more with my car myself, but with no ramp, no tools, and no space for tools (I live in a rented 2-bedroom 1st floor flat in a housing scheme, with no storage space except for clothes)

My neighbours gurn in case I get oil on the driveway.

Eds a good man, he was once in Top Gear where they built a Bond car out of a Rover 800.

That was back when they had the big man out of Used Car Roadshow on it instead of James.
