Getting the same things as igot with the 406 when ichanged the radio in that,
the new system goes off, open the car door it comes back to life, :?

and the anoying beeps from the Mfd, seems this French critter is Multiplexed too just like the 406s.

@ waue, the Citreon badge on the grille still remains its just the chrome bits that flew off,

this car is not Growing on me at the moment, its comfy, but as for it being a Modern car its build Quality is very poor,
The clutch pedal is mega heavy no where near as light as a 406,
the interior is pathetic :frown:

Cable clutch ;)
Will need replacing. If I was you I would get a flywheel off an XU petrol engine (GTi 6/Xsara VTS, 2.0/1.8 Petrol 306/Xsara)
A Clutch from a 1.9TD engine, along with the clutch fork from a 1.9TD gearbox and a 1.9TD clutch cable.
Much better clutch overall and can handle much more power :)
cheers, yes ithink thats best option, replace cable,
as of this critters power, ithink its only 70bhp, so adding other parts to get an extra 2 or 3 bhp wouid be a waste of money.
its not bad, its nippy on take off, iwas touching 80 in it last night going down hill on the brew on the motorway from leeds,
ithink anythink in this over 80 wouid be like a hotpoint washer with a bad bearing on full spin :frown:

the 1.4 is deffo a town car (plodder) imo,.
didnt buy it for speed tho, ijust got it because its modern safe, and most of all pennys on insurance, and the cheap tax.
the savings will help out at crimbo buying pressies for 7 kids is expensive, :(

the what car review is a bit contradictory on the summary screen:

For Cheap to buy and to run, and later ones are well equipped and reliable

Against It feels old and looks shabby; it's dull to drive and not that reliable

a bit of a problem if you want reliability.

Relibilty, surely they carnt be bad , its a 306 lump,
maybe there refering to the Multiplex thing or the suspension they do eat suspension parts,

feels old , yes deffo,
shabby, nah, they just have that blue peter quality about them, the soround round the radio and the switches other bits of the dash is made out of thin plastic, not much thicker than margerine tubs, shits quality,

seats are crap too, no where near as solid as the 406,

the reliability thing is nonsense, they say to avoid the old 1.9d but its a good engine. I remember my aunt had one, never gave any trouble and was easy on petrol. The other aunt drove a zx for 12 years without any mechanical issues, just a doorhandle jammed once.

That's surprising. Guarantee if I got a 1.9d & tried to run it on petrol the damn thing would go bang...

I had a ZX 1.9D I ran for 4 years, only things went on it were the boot release (an easy fix at a Peugeot dealer!) and the alternator (cheap refurbed unit off a 306).

It even survived a mate firing a £10 of petrol in it when I leant it to him!

Then got given a 1.9TD ZX estate, was very quick with the turbocharger and surprisingly roomy. Sold it and the Xantia I also had at the time to fund a GTV.

Been looking for bits for the car,
ive decided the interior and dash parts are going in a skip.

not much bits out there that look decent for these zaras,

anyone know what other french cars shared this interior,
looking at other cars ican get bits off,

perhaps having bits of trim chrome Dipped might be on the cards too

Best I can think of would be to rob some bits from a Xsara VTS if you find one. The Peugeot equivalent was the 306, but I know from looking at Xantias for 406 bits that not much inside (that would be considered a cosmetic upgrade) is shared.

There's not a massive difference though. Seats don't look especially sporty compared to standard ones & as far as the dash goes it's either grey plastic or fake wood. The plastic in the VTS looks the same as that in the base models. Think it's only the SX that gets the wood effect.

iagree mate,
the trim levels dont differ much,
and im not a fan of wood, tbh. so iwill leave the sx bits a lone,

ithink wood trim shouid be in Luxury cars only, eg Jag merc Lexus. and Bmw!

im going to rip out all the dash bits and take them to company in manchester, they do all this plastic coating stuff,

seats are crap they Remind me of them old seat covers they used to have in taxis in the late 80s the Rar-rar look ones,
iwill look into getting these re-trimed,

A few people on the xsara forum have had the heavy clutch syndrome inc mine, turned out to be the pivot bolt on the clutch pedal to tight. The phase two is the same chassis as the phase 1. The interiors are on the drab side but it dosent bother me as its only having the heater and the 406 clocks in it lol.
98, Executive turbo estate in aluminum silver. The stealth wagon! Now departed, New project Xsara VTR-8 in progress, Next Project, 406 D8 / JAP. So will be looking for a 406 again when the xsara is done!
