I am still not happy with my "remap". On acceleration from low revs in 2/3rd gears, it smokes like hell  (it doesn't when on standard map). Love the power though... not sure what it's doing to the DMF though :supafrisk:

Thinking of forking out £300 for a "proper" remap, not just a generic file off the web.

Hadn't thought it through TBH, but if there's a 406 get-together on the cards,

Funnily enough, I'm in Doggy's area Wednesday. Going here:

http://www.sundialgroup.com/highgatehouse/directions

Another work thing.

I'm actually (hopefully) heading up to Cannock to look at a 2.2 - if it doesn't get sold already like the last 2 2.2s I had lined up. Would be expensive for a couple of weeks, but the plan is to get a 2.2 Exec & transfer the extra seats & best bits from mine over to give me a perfect all rounder ripe for a deFAP & 180 remap.

Only thing is, it's over 2hrs from me & the garage shuts at 6 which means Saturday is as early as I can get there. Can't go during the week because of school runs - nobody else in our house can drive. Also going to mean 2 trips - 1 to view, another to collect & as Doggy will testify, I am a fussy sh*te, so no way I can do a deal over the phone.

Just when we thought you were going to explore remapping your current steed and saving a packet.......

Good luck with the trip.

Really? My oddyssey went something like this......

1. '02' reg 2.2 exec, Derbyshire, (off eBay), just didn't seem right, more rattles than a 1960's cup final, let him keep it.
2. 'Y' reg 2.2 GTX, N. London: Good price, drove beautifully, paid deposit, clutch failed before I collected it, walked away.
3. '52' reg 2.2 exec, Bucks: Expensive, broken COM2000, otherwise drove OK, more trolley dings than you would believe possible, ditto.
4. '02' reg 2.2 GTX, E. London: Cheap for 70k miles, damp inside, (probably sunroof drains), hard to start / blocked DPF - he offered to drop it £500 when I pointed this out. Didn't know the answer then, so left it.
5. 'Y' reg 2.2 GTX, Boston, Lincs: Pricey but 47k / 1 owner, drove OK, floppy non-COM2000 stalk, otherwise faultless, couldn't agree on price.
6. 'Y' reg 110 GTX, Northampton: Cheap, drove reasonably,but not like a 2.2, (personal reality check, + got Mrs Doggy's 406 approval).
7. '51' reg 2.2 exec, N. London: Blocked DPF, broken COM2000, generally pretty tatty
8. Finally, the dogmobile, (near Norwich), foggy foglights, dogdy aircon, but otherwise perfect.........

That's not to mention the ones I missed, or the 530d's, or the Mundano

May still do that, but as far as saving a packet goes, it may be just as cost effective for me to chuck £1500 into the pot to upgrade to a 2.2 Exec with 20k less than mine as I could end up spending the same amount on mine in dribs & drabs & still not be happy because of the lack of a few extras, whereas the Exec has it all to start with. There is a Y plate GTX 40 miles away for £2300, but I'd rather go for the Exec & have what I'm after at the start. Extra seats will have to be added in as no 2.2s came with them. Still tempted by the C5, but there's the nagging thought of needing the 7 seats once I haven't got them anyore. That's the way my life usually goes.

My quest for a 406 saw me firstly driving 70 miles to look at a 110bhp LX which had more dings than a Post Office van, was leaking coolant, and the car dealer was a gob shyte.

The second was an exec, 15 miles away at a Dealer, paid over the odds but got a warranty (which I used  ) they even gave me a bunch of flowers at my 'customer collection ceremony'

Had quite a bit of trouble with that motor :(

I'm not sure if they were celebrating actually selling a car or shifting the shed they'd had sitting on the forecourt for a year...
