most of them are conbined up here,

Mot/ Repairs/welding etc, = (High fail -rates)

Trouble is theres too many Garages, theres 3 on most streets so there all cutting each others throats so to speak or being unjustly to earn a few quid,

id sooner keep my reputation than work for some of these feckers,

You're confusing films with reality again :P I've got that somewhere to make a animated gif but there's too much moving about & I couldn't be asked.

ah right, here mot centres are all controlled by the DVLNI, its a good system especially as the person testing doesn't fail you so you can get the repairs done by them. Although one mechanic my dad knows quit and joined because he says its easier work, and easier to get paid.
Even the mechanic i go to complains of people not paying up especially the statement "ill run round with the money later" they shouldn't let a car go until getting paid.

ah yes its really easy not to pay just say "ill run the money round later" many mechanics reply "ah no worries whenever you get the chance.
i pay the money when collecting the car but ive seen a few people take their cars saying they will be back later

Speaking of dodgy MoT stations mine failed on head light not working, changed the bulb but it still didn't work, checked the fuse - some fecker had removed it !!!!
Cost me a full retest and the price of a bulb - not a happy bunny

Couldn't prove it was the test station but they also gave me an advisory on nsr tyre near legal limit when it was only put on new 3 days before the test!!!

Not been back there needless to say

i went back today for the test and passed, the handbrake strength this time was double that of the last test the cable really made the difference, and actually the handbrake can be used to hold the car in a stationary position at the moment it would be nice if it lasts.

Hi

Interesting post, but don't mess around with shoes or drums, just remove corrosion from expander mechanism and coppergrease to get a perfect handbrake !

For some odd reason my handbrake gets better and better, it's now nearly as good as the 405s and on purchasing it feb 2011 it left a lot to be desired.

Really? Mine was as hopeless as it is on the D9. New handbrake cable, shoes, pads and discs all around earlier this year meant that the handbrake could hold a train... but now it seem to be back to its old tricks again... :frown:

Mine always had an enormous amount of 'nothing' during the lever's travel and then it would sort of lurch into a locked position. Felt like everything attached to the lever was 'loose'.

Best handbrake's evAr are the ones fitted to the drums of a Ford KA/Fezza they are really grippy.
