Dunno why but I've never had any problems using a TomTom (just the basic TomTom One 3rd Edition) or the Google Maps Navigation function on either of my HTC mobile phones (my last one was an HTC Desire, the current one an HTC Sensation). No external antenna or booster devices required.

I put a dashboard-mounted phone holder on the top of the dash just over where the centre console is, with the holder facing towards me so I can see it properly. It's within easy reach of my left hand, and I can see it at just a glance.

The TomTom worked with all three cars I've ever owned since passing my test - a Mk.1 Clio, the old 406 LX Saloon, and the 406 Coupe. I know that both the 406s had the aethermic windscreen.

thats a very good looking sat nav
but i had a look there for the antennas seen this:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 1214739387
it does say roof mounted yes but it can be used either side of the roof, im not sure what the picasso is like but is there much of a cavity in behind say the a pillar trim or behind the courtesy light to fit this box, even with a cable that lenghth somewhere under the bonnet.

If I can't get mine to work, I leave it on the passenger seat for a spell, (must pick up a signal through the side windows). Graeme's being well back from the windscreen may work for similar reasons.....

Apparently you can get a remote antenna and there's a small area either side of the rear view mirror with no metallised film, for this reason.

Also thought these screens were relatively rare on 406's? :?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I just checked service box with my vin:
WINDOW (TYPE) ATHERMAL WINDSCREEN
though its not posed any problems yet, some gps systems must be able to work ok with athermic windscreens,
here is the same problem on the clio:
