Years of expensive research has proved to me the best way to avoid a hangover is not to drink in the first place  I'm right in the middle of a wine growing area here, I could have enough to fill a bath but I don't touch a drop. The last time I did (2 years back?) I had a few glasses of white mixed with mineral water ("gmišt") mainly because I felt a tit drinking coke up at the biker's club. Felt fine, got home, fetched wood, stoked the boiler, went to bed. I had a hangover for two days. Stuff that, not one drop since.

You are more than welcome :cheesy: I'd say ring up any time for a chat but... That's a point, anyone on the forum nearby up for lending a hand/shoulder/couch?

You hear it all the time though don't you, "aww he's such a nice man, its only when he's got a drink in him".
Yeah only then does he beat his Mrs and kids.

It amazes me how much trouble, misery and suffering goes on when people drink too much. I read somewhere that if there were a group of individuals drinking and a group of individuals smoking canabis, the group drinking were more likely to cause trouble.
Now I don't condone drugs but isn't alcohol the source of more problems and court proceedings than any other?
Now she has two brothers in their late 30s who are both alcoholics, one of which has been told if he doesn't stop drinking he WILL die. Has he paid any attention to this, no. And he gets 80 quid a week from the social just for being an alcoholic, I mean what an incentive to give up. Not.

I am also a tee-totaller (what, a Scot that doesn't drink?)

I've tried alcohol (when I was 18), but absolutely hated the way I felt while under the influence, even slightly. I hated having to concentrate to be able to walk in a straight line. I hated the (even slight) loss of control of my own limbs. Even more basic than that, I hated how any of it tasted - yet all my "mates" were happy to tell me that it wasn't the taste you were meant to be enjoying, it was "getting smashed".

Nah, stuff that. I'm now 31, and very glad I didn't pursue it. Occasionally (at weddings, New Year, etc) I'm offered a glass of champagne, but it just tastes sour and bitter to me, so no - I don't even drink on special occasions. And now that I'm driving (I passed when I was 27) I won't even do it to toast at weddings.

I never could understand why people drink champagne - what marketing genius persuaded everyone that this revolting stuff was the thing to drink when you had something to celebrate? Feeling happy? New Baby? Just got married? Well here's a refreshing glass of cat pišš to bring you back down to earth

We actually stock a very honestly titled wine at work - "Cat Pee On A Gooseberry Bush" if I recall correctly. Even states on the back of the label that there is a "hint of cat"...

Don't blame alcohol for individuals' idiotic behaviour.

Before the little one came along, I had been going out every friday/saturday night for the last 15 or so years getting properly leathered on good ol' "wifebeater". Did I ever get aggressive with anyone? Not once. Have I ever taken my frustrations out on someone weaker than myself? Never. Have I ever had a blazing argument with someone? No. Have I ever damaged other people's property or made noise and woken people up? No. Have I ever wasted taxpayer money by needing medical treatment as a result of being drunk? No.

Being drunk doesn't make you do any of those things. Being a twat who's drunk on the other hand...

I'm glad to hear you kicked it so easily, it's not like that for some people. Still, I bet you could do with all the money you spent on it now...

Sir Henry Mebleedin'rawlinwotsit: "If I had all the money I'd spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink."

That's more to the point, it doesn't turn everyone into a belligerent moron, it merely suppresses the inhibitions you have towards doing certain stuff - whether that's chatting up pretty girls, strutting your stuff on the dancefloor or perhaps the feeling that you'd like to beat your partner senseless...

I agree with some points raised above but there are people (my Mrs being one) where alcohol has a negative effect. I could get rat arsed and still be a nice reasonable person.
Its the people who turn into monsters that should not drink but unfortunately these are the people who can't seem to live without it.

Hear, hear. So many people use it as an excuse when it really isn't.
