He dosen't chew on much, where the parcel shelf sits in the Focus has been chewed to bits, and he ate most the spindles on the banister when he was a pup

He does have strong jaws though!

If my dog gets hold of a stick, you can swing him round on it and he won't let go!
Me and Dad one day down the beach got him in the middle of a stick and we put the stick on our shoulders between us and he just hung there

I suppose you need a dog that'll sit quietly in the cab and not decide to eat the interior

My dad got his last 3 dogs from a rescue place, they've all been good. I don't think I could handle it though, I'd want to take them all home

first off all i would check with your boss that you can have a dog with you as some places you go to wont let dogs on the site and if someone else uses the vechicle they might not be happy with dog hairs etc
i have had german shepards for over 30 years and they suit me and my family our latest dog is now 8 years old and has only ever been to the vet for her jabs[ have now got a good deal with go pet paid 99 pounds and she gets a booster jab for life].one thing to consider is holidays as you are restricted to where you can take them or cost of kennals
insurance is a difficult one i would reserch what goes wrong with the breed you buy eg with shepards its usully hips or cancer.i used to have insurance but it costs quite a lot and there are lots of things they dont cover or only cover up to a certain limit.so i used to save 20 pounds a month in a bank account then when i got up to 100 pounds i would buy a premium bond for 100 pounds.i have also had a few 25 pound wins and one 50 pound win!.i have now dropped this down to 10 pounds a month.
dogs can be a pain, can get in the way, destroy your house, but i wouldnt be without one and my dog is a my 4 year old best mate.

I've got an 20month old collie staring at me eating his bone as we speak.

I would be reluctant to have a rescue dog unless there is good knowledge on its back ground, seen the wrong dog homed in the wrong place due to lack of history and it causes problems!

If you go for a collie, then they are a great first dog. Very intelligent, loving and loyal. Jack is a great companion for me on work trips accross the country when i deliver quads or go racing, happy to spend time just sat in the van mooching and bone chewing. Also he is great with kids and very calming.....

Injections are actually surprisingly cheap, i paid £40 for Jack's that was both lots then £15 for a chip. Getting them castrated or spayed is about £130 or there about, but i would recommend using pets at home vets as they are pretty competitive........

If you decide to get a collie, then I would go get them from a working farm. The dogs are a lot hardier and more intelligent - ok they are used to more exercise but thats good in many ways. Also they are out and about a lot more so more immune to germs and things. Jack was straight out into a big field with me after his first lot of Jabs, and they can be walked around the park happily, on concerete as it is a bit cleaner.
Toys are necessary with pups, get a selection that can be got cheaply and destroyed, they chew naturally so giving them things to chew of their own will save your own!

If you want any more info then give me a nudge, or if you can travel to get a pup then let me know, i know a cracking place to get them from, for about £130.....

Sorry but idisagree with you there pilch,

Dogs that are in rescue centres 90% of them are there through no fault of there own,
either the owner as died, been evicted, or the complete and utter twats that dump them because theyve shite on the carpet because its unwalked,

Most rescue centres work on a take it home and give it a try policy if the dog is bad bring it back

so whats the Harm Bailing one out and giving it a chance,

everyone and everything deserves a chance dont they ?
