Sam, there have been documented cases of diesels objecting to Shell 'fuelsaver', particularly 2.2 Landy FreeLoaders. Can't hurt to try a few tankfuls from elsewhere.....Bailes1992 wrote:Only fill up at shell and this is the second time I've filled up...
Might be something to think about though!

Re: Does this sound like EGR failure?
I'l try BP next week
I just filled up at shell
Had a phonecall at half 11 this morning. Halfords can't diagnose it and it has to go to a dealer
At this point I got very stroppy, started going on about how I have missed hours and hours of work to get this car diagnosed, I have told you and insisted it had to go to a dealer etc etc. Had to have another morning off work today so you can tell me what I've known all along
But good news is it's booked into P.W.Miller in Barry next Wednesday at 10

Re: Does this sound like EGR failure?
Best that it goes into a dealer and they will hopefully 'go nuclear' on it and replace everything going at no cost to you.
I remember taking my newly acquired 406 into the Main Dealer for a few bits and watched the Mechanics through the 'viewing gallery'
merrily ducking/diving between punters cars whilst throwing rolls of blue paper at each other
Oh that reminds me, took mine to Volvo last week for an Oil change..............noticed yesterday it has a 'new' scuff on the door that's gone through my lovely unblemished paintwork
Where do you get the staff these days?? just about everyone in the service industry in the UK is a complete twat

Re: Does this sound like EGR failure?
Just sent this to carshop...
Hi,
This is the second email I have written about the car above, the first one I sent over 48 hours ago and so far, no reply!
The car went in a second time today for more diagnostics at the HellFrauds Autocenter you insist I used.
I arrived today to find the two mechanics who were 'playing' with my car when I last took it there, sat on the floor, outsite at 8:30am in the pissing down rain barking at a stray dog. Why the hell would I want this pair of braindead antelopes working on my car?
I have practically demanded several times and told you that it needed to go to Ford main dealer and that you were wasting my time in making me take my car to Halfords.
Today then it came as no suprise when I received a phonecall around 11:30am telling me that the Braindead Antelopes couldn't find the issues with my car and it did actually need to go into a dealer.
Now that may not bother most people but as a 19 year old apprentice electrician on £5.09 an hour, it makes hell of a difference!
To have diagnostics done by the two what I can only assume are stroke victims done at what I can also only assume is Toys'R'Us it has cost me 3 hours wages. That may not seem allot to you but a 37.5 hour week at £5 an hour means I take home £190, After tax it's more like £160/170. 3 hours wages means I have lost £15 in pay, that means next week I'm going to be down almost 10% of my weeks wage. So I lost almost 10% of my weeks wage to be told that my car has to be taken into a dealer which I told you SEVERAL TIMES!
Then comes the other issue of fuel. Today I gave my pride and joy to the pair of idiots at 8:30 with half a tank of diesel. It came back with just a 1/4 of a tank? So somehow they used 1/4 of a tank of diesel to tell you to tell me what I knew all along THAT IT NEEDED TO GO TO A DEALER! I have a 70 litre tank, divide that by 4 means they used 17.5 litres. So 17.5 times by 139.9p means they used £24 of diesel.
So so far I'm £39 out of pocket to be told what I told you originally.
I will also let you know that today I had my car back in such a state that Kim and Aggie themselves wouldn't even think about entering. There was greasy hand marks on the steering wheel and all down the door card and a lovley shoe print on my lovley ex-pristine door card. I have just had to spend over an hour trying to remove the oil marks. I would also like to add, sat on the floor in the pouring rain trying to clean my door card, I didn't once get an urge to bark at Jack my Staffy who could probably diagnose my car better than my favourite pair of antelopes, or my neighbours two labradors that decided to come see what I was upto, therefore proving that the monkeys you wanted to diagnose the issues with my car must be clinically insane.
I would like to be reimbursed for the money I have lost over the past week trying to get you to realise that my car does infact need specialist attention.
I used to drive a 10 year old Peugeot 406 diesel with 120,000miles on the clock, once it failed to get me to work and that was down to human error. I splashed out ALL my savings to buy what I thought would be a nice upgrade and have now had to leave work early and be late getting to work due to it and will have to miss next work next Wednesday morning to get the car diagnosed at the ford dealer, although I am happier about it now as it's going to someone who knows they are doing. I will also probably have to have a day off work in the near future then to get the car repaired unless Carshop can sort me out a hire car, but due to my age I doubt this is possible although would appreciate it if you could get back to me about it?
I would appreciate a reply this time, and even better a small contribution towards the costs of finding out that the car needs to go to a dealer.
Thanks, Sam.

Stroke victims?
You probably 'went off on one' a bit there Sam but they should take note that you're not about to bend over and 'take one' from a Large organisation and actually get you sorted pronto.
Fingers crossed here

Wow! What an email Bailes!
Fair play to you, that is classic, the sort of thing that people would read in those "FW:" emails.
(Though Stroke Victims is a little harsh)

iwouid go through all the paperwork you got with the car, see if theres anywhere on it theres mention of the warranty and its supplier,Bailes1992 wrote:They are supplying the warrenty as far as I know. It's only 3 months worth.lozz wrote:iwouid of been wound up too,

Car dealers normaly use a 3rd party for warranty cover .ie Rac etc etc, idont think they supply there own covers,
They normaly get deals where they get warranty, and have the option to offer the buyer the 7 day drive away insurance,
iwouid do some research on who is the supplier of the warranty and then grab the bull by its horns,
Re: Does this sound like EGR failure?
looks like there using Rac mate,
http://www.carshop.co.uk/RAC-extended-warranty
if so perhaps an email to them, asking them some questions might help, if your not getting awhere with the supplier of your mondy,
one of which iwouid ask is, if my car was faulty /defective wouid you ask for it to be sent to halfords or the maindealer, for diagnostics for confirmation of the fault or replacement parts needed if any,
afreind of mine got cover on a Honda, the car went to the Main dealer for diagnostics, he had a long wait for the Repairs 7days plus iirc but
they didnt mess around, ithink in the long haul the wait he had was for the dealer to get the parts, not for the fitting,

Re: Does this sound like EGR failure?
No RAC only cover the car if you take out an extended warrenty with carshop. The basic 3 month warrenty is supplied by carshop and is the basic warrenty you should get when you buy any car off a trader second hand.

As the others have said the stroke bit - although humourous - is a bit too harsh.

yes your correct mate, you get warranty with any secound hand car, unless sold as un-roadworthy,Bailes1992 wrote:No RAC only cover the car if you take out an extended warrenty with carshop. they call it Statutory warranty but they can exclude what they want from that , except tyres and Brakes,
