The suzuki vitaras have 4wd but its not permanent, they have a transfer box, you can select 2wd, 4 high or 4 low. In 2wd they are back wheel drive only, you can put freewheeling hubs on the front to stop the front driveshafts spinning when they are not required.

The beemer might be ok, is 100k much on their 4cyl petrol engines?

But whats wrong with a 406, there is definatley plenty available on ebay, gumtree and gumtree, after a quick search there is plenty of HDi's under a grand

I know a mechanic who ran an 'S' reg Freeloader and he was telling me that when they get to about 6 years old the suspension bushes are pretty much goosed and although that doesn't (didn't used to?) fail an MOT it makes for an appalling driving experience and tyre wear - which leads to diff wear

Are the early Nissan Entrails any good? or cheap enough? worth a punt? I think the Diesel engine was a bit flaky?

The week before buying the 406 i test drove a w plate freelander and took my mechanic mate with me, i couldn't hear it myself but he could hear a groan coming from the gearbox so told me to leave it... tbh it was a lovely drive and and plenty of room for the dog in the boot.

I couldn't get fook all else in there mind  so not practical for my lot... i couldn't afford the thing anyway so not a big deal.... Talking of deals have you thought about Dai's hpi? i know it's got a few niggles at the moment but your handy with the spanners?

Its a Diesel .

Heres the problems.

isat there and checked everything the seller said im being picky but at two thousand and 495 quid can you blaim me

1. Horn dont work.
2. indicator stalk dont look good,
3, nothing displayed on the Mfd.. no life from it, perhaps unplugged.. whats that hiding hmm.
4. front tyres dont look good,
5. oil leak not major but its got one, perhaps sump plug.
theres a few more things too,

But the good things are,
its mint,
1 owner from new, low miles 59k and its been a doctors car so idont think it will have been Abused.
theres no tow bar either which is good ithink as its not towed anything

£2495 thats about what i paid for mine, and its the top price range for the 406, so you have every right to be more picky, or tell the dealer to keep his car.

- The horn should be easy enough to fix, its down by the washer fluid tank, water could have been spilt on it
- the MFD could be unplugged in which case you have to wonder why (is it a normal one or sat nav one?), but the fuse can blow on them ive seen mine do the same once, the bootlight and seat memory also went at the same time
-Tyres can be changed, but are they unevenly wearing?
- I had an oil leak when i tried to use the same sump washer, as long as that was the only place its coming out.

The rest sounds good, no towing the DMF will hold up longer after you defap it

Famously doctor's cars do massive amounts of short journeys, prepare for defap

It's not always a good sign, they can be removed. Although doctors aren't really known for towing burger vans over mountains...

I guess a substantial discount isn't on the cards from a dealer, easier for him to wait for a proper mug...

Could be worse. I bought a Golf 2.3 V5 today.
Got it from one end of the carpark to the other and it oferheated. Turned it off and it wouldn't restart.

I bought it in auction for £500.
I put it back into auction, see how much I get for it.

Worse case scenario I get it picked up and scrapped and I loose £400.
