Mmmm, you might wanna start shopping/saving for 17" winters as they're not all that common? normally 16" I suppose. I really wanted 16's as the 17's are still a bit steam-rollery which goes against the principle a bit when on the snow.

I've been pleased with my Uniroyal's though they're not showing any signs of wear (been on 3 months) so reckon on another 3 winters out of them :| gonna take them off in March - this is when I'll be crying like a baby having to spend £400.00 on 4 x Summer's  I want to go for a tyre-size change, mine are 205 x 50 x 17 and are fiercely expensive; if I change to 225 x 45 x 17 they're about £20.00 each cheaper but need the approval of the Insurance company

.......and my allows are crying out for a refurb :(

Is the 225/45 R17 size a standard size for the car (as listed in the handbook)? If so I can't see why you'd need to inform the insurance company, if not then you obviously need to.

My winter tyres will be 225/50 R17 so they're still a bit wide but that's the standard size for 17s on the V70 so that's what I'm going with. They're about £100 a corner for the cheapest stuff or £150 for decent stuff, although I went up to see my tyre man on Friday and he said he sourced some for a customer right in the middle of last summer and they were 40% cheaper than they were in the winter, so advised I go to see him in June

No, 225 x 45 is not a standard size on mine but is *very* common on Golf's, Poxhalls, Kia's loads of stuff so they are much cheaper. I never understood why they only shod my car with 205's - seems a bit narrow these days :|

Buying Winter's in the Summer does make sense, I'd go for something in-between the price brackets and hopefully a named make you can recognise rather that Kung Po Super Stars or whatever :?

The example he used were Hankooks, apparently he sold loads of them over the winter, that sort of brand would do me fine. I forget the size that this customer wanted but they were £137 in the winter and £80 in the summer, I won't be anywhere as lucky I'm sure, but I'm hoping for something along those lines...

Yeah Hankook's are good, OE fitment to some cars I believe.

Did you get them there rimz off ebay?

I tried to get a set of nearly-new rimz from a guy on the old-giffers forum (taken off a C30) but he would-not-budge on the price even though the tyres he was trying to sell with them would have effectively gone in the bin. He wanted £600.00 of my hard-earned, we haven't spoken since

What's a refurb cost now per-wheel? £50.00?

No, they were on the aforementioned old-giffers site mate. Sold by an enterprising representative from the parts department of a main dealer :?

Don't know if these invisible tyres are going to catch on, grip is non-existant with them

Still, at least my new wheels fit :P
