There used to be the estate version of the bmw down the end of our road but it went a few years ago.I would love a 4x4 diesel estate. But unless you want an Audi/VW etc theres not much choice.
When my Dad retiered a few years ago his 407 company car went & he brought a Kia Sorento diesel auto.At best he was getting 27mpg,& 20 ish mpg towing the caravan. He sold it last year & brought another 407 sw hdi.
The 4x4 was good in the winter, but the mpg was too much.At least if you had a standard height 4x4 estate diesel, you should be able to get 45 mpg. :)

Subaru does diesel legacy estates with 4x4, thought they are not really cheap enough yet.

Opposite experience here - Subarus are very popular here! Parts are reasonable (similar to Peugeot) mechanically are bulletproof!

My next car is already lined up to be a Legacy (Petrol Turbo).

5th gear did a test with a Legacy vs Volvo V50 and the Leggy won with superior handling and grip. Top Gear like the Legacy a lot too.

Mate of mine back in the UK managed to pick up a fairly late Forrester (2004 I think) for peanuts and he was out here with it last year. It seemed a nicely put together car, nothing of the "child's toy" build quality of the yoyo. Only 2 things put me off it, one was the seat position didn't suit my back and the other was the all-too-familiar emissions system failure warning lights on the dash. Other than that, great car.

We have a large subaru breakers less than 4 miles away, although i rarely see legacys around here, but i think thats peoples obsession with german cars.

Did they offer the jag x-type estate in diesel 4x4 flavour?

There is also the renault scenic, not a proper estate but 4x4 was available.

The Volvo XC70 has the dynamic abilities of a waterbed.

Not one of the best cars I have driven...
