Insurance is coming down a bit now:

Last year mine was £540.00 with Aviva, this year it is £260.00 with Sainsbury's (with up to £1,000.00 suspension mods covered).

41 years old, full NCB, 2005 Volvo 220bhp, 8500 miles.

I think your postcode has the biggest effect, my renewal nearly doubled this year but after a search on go compare it actually dropped £100, 41 years old with 4 years NCB £328 fully comp with W/S, courtesy car, legal assist etc.... D8 1.9td, when I priced up a 110 D9 a few months back that was cheaper than my D8 presumably due to availability of parts. Putting the other half on as a named driver saves me about £30 a year as well.

Someone told me that only declaring a few thousand miles a year can put your premiums up due to lack of driving experience but I've never messed with that on a comparison sites to see if it's true.

:arrowu: +1
yeah postcode is the big thing, ican get my insurance down from 700 quid too 270 ish if iuse My mother n laws address, :!: only checked for comparison
not that id do that mind, ibelive its wouid be classed as fronting iwouidnt fancy her getting into trouble if found out, (resisted temptation on those thoughts)

Mileage does seem to Make an effect, not much but if you only do low miles it lowers it,

Well f*k me :!:

Renewal has just come through and it's £87 less :!: :? :D than last year. £404 down to £317.

I was with NFU Mutual, and it was an excellent policy, but they were wanting £800 to renew. I will never forgive them for forcing me to use a comparison website. That's when I got the £404 with the AA (there were cheaper quotes but with companies I'd not heard of). Now, I expected this to be an "introductory offer" and that this year they'd be asking for £800 and I'd be locked into a never-ending cycle of switching. But apparently not so, so well done AA.

On the other hand, is cheap car insurance a sign of getting old?

All I need to do now is give Chris Knott a call and get them to match it but including a remap

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Insurance does appear to be coming down, and yes you appear to be getting old

I tried a few 'specialist' insurers because of my suspension mods (very minor mods) but quiet a few forums appeared to say that these smaller companies are all over you when you first sign up and then when you make a claim you're given as much attention as a sewer rat :( one or two of them make a massive fuss about you producing your proof of NCB and, if you become late with this, start getting shirty with you and charging/cancelling stuff.

More proof of this: I now find myself unable to open product packaging. I really have no idea how to open those handwash pump bottles; they defy logic.

That's meaningless, I've always done that. According to QI it helps if you keep repeating what it is you're looking for - "zimmer frame, zimmer frame, zimmer frame..."

Some of those pump-action soap dispensers are just badly designed, others I have no problems with. What annoys me is the writing on everything seems to be getting smaller and smaller. Also all the lights are getting dimmer, and not just because I've changed everything for lower wattage bulbs either :frown:

I can't comment on the insurance too much as it seems to be a cartel here and it's all extortionate (although it might also be something to do with the mount of crazy feckers on the roads here  )
