its the only car that i know the light for low fuel comes on at 37 n miles left but then as your driving you get more

for a tenner i get about 67 miles. in town and pulling out onto national speed roads so foot down! and up and down some bloody big hills avg about 39-43 mpg round town

is that good or bad for a auto and good or bad for a manuel

43 sounds about right, I've just checked the figures that peugot quote: 49 mpg ave for a manual & 43 mpg ave for a auto
So I'd say our cars are running well, you read so many daft mpg figures
OH & if your interested 61 mpg best for a manual & 55 mpg best for a auto.

Tax disc != road tax

Tax disc == vehicle excise duty (VED) which is a tax on car ownership, not on your use of the roads.

The roads are paid for by the government (motorways and most A roads - this money comes from the treasury, which receives money through multiple different taxes including your VED, income tax, etc) and local authorities (in-town roads, remaining A roads, and B roads - this money comes from your Council Tax)

They're simply increasing how much money you need to pay for the privilege of owning a car, while not necessarily increasing the amount of spend on infrastructure improvements. I can't remember when road tax became VED, but that's how the government wiggled their way out of paying for road resurfacing work every time the tax disc price went up.

My Volvo is £280.00/year to tax :(

I think it's unfair for me, I only do about 7,500 miles a year so am polluting less really.

It's annoying when they tax old motors highly in an effort to encourage us to buy nice new efficient cars but how are we supposed to afford those?

I think they should, at the time of your MOT, register the mileage and have a road tax bill calculated based upon emissions and the mileage covered.

You know, funds from your tax disc don't go towards the upkeep of the roads.
It just gets swallowed into the giant government pot, but the local council fix all the pot holes (or not as the case may be).

its hit and miss with diesels ithink,
some are dirtier than other's. it all boils down to age of acar ithink,

to get realy realy cheap car tax' ithink one has to lower them selves into buying a small car,
iwas tempted to buy a puggy 206 hdi . ithink theyre a measly 25quid for road tax or something daft, but is it worth it ..nah

I think my dads kia is £35 a year, the old LPG primera was still something around £170, having LPG made no difference to the price of the tax, despite the fact the emissions from an LPG car are quite clean, they still charge the higher price because the thing starts up on petrol.
