And as I had my money back for the wipers it will be a free screen!
Worried about damage that could possibly be done to the car with the new screen though

Re: Windscreen wipers!
Bailes,
1. I am sure that they are NOT scatches in your screen try cleaning it with T-CUT work well on greasey screens
2. if you are going to go ahead & let them re-place your screen be very carefull
, my old man years ago had a brand new 4x4 cosworth 6 months old & then screen was cracked. Anyway Autoglass came out through the insurance, the first chap CUT a great big chunk out the top of the dashboard cutting out the bonded screen
, the second chap fxxked the heated screen part!
.
My old man gave up
he all ways did this & I allways try to have a chip repared rather than replaced
, just don't trust them
ps you can even machine compound your screen.

Re: Windscreen wipers!
DDD you can actually feel the scratches with your nails.
And you cant compound glass it's too hard. All you'll do is fill the scratches with oils, when these oils wash away your back to square one

Re: Windscreen wipers!
Does the rain/light sensor still work ok after the screen has been changed?
Re: Windscreen wipers!
As long as they fit the correct screen and dont feck the rubber bit that goes between the sensor and the glass. 406 screens are a fairly easy one to change I've done a few.FarmerPug wrote:Does the rain/light sensor still work ok after the screen has been changed?
Forgot to add, dont cut the sensor wire either.

Fair enough young man if that's what you want to belleive.Bailes1992 wrote:DDD you can actually feel the scratches with your nails.

I'm shocked that the blades could do that that quickly & you didn't notice

The referance to compounding screens is to remove the build up of residue that makes them all smeary & yours look's like that in your pic

Oh & F.Y.I you can ploish scratches out of windscreens.

Local Man in tears as Motor Factors closes its doors for the last time.Bailes1992 wrote: "Don't worry about it. We'll get the screen replaced for you".
He give me his number.........
Local Man Samuel Brayle was found sobbing outside the Motor Factors on Rees Lane yesterday after the owner decided to close the doors of his business forever. Blaming a down-turn in trade recently the boss told us "yeah trade had been slow for months now, everyone just wants to buy the cheap stuff and there's no profit in it for us. Then at the end of last week Sam came to us demanding we replace the windscreen of his Mondeo; that was the last straw and I decided enough was enough".
Sam told our reporter that the Boss seemed genuine and even gave him his mobile phone number (which turned out to be a local Curry House) "I bought some windscreen wipers from them last week and they scratched my expensive windscreen which has a special UV coating, I took them back and they said they would buy me a new screen and have it fitted and everything; I thought it sounded too good to be true".
Our newspaper contacted the Chairman of the AA Sir Edward Spring who said "this is a very sad case and all too common I'm afraid, the UK market is flooded with cheap imported wiper blades and it is very dangerous, we suggest that anyone who has suffered a scratched windscreen rubs the glass with a Brillo Pad and Fairy Liquid and it will be like new again".
Sam has vowed never to drive again; "I loved that car but since the windscreen was scratched things were not the same, I will have to use public transport and learn my lesson".

Re: Windscreen wipers!
Windscreen has been replaced and they even paid for autoglass to fit a fair of Bosch aeroblade wipers too
Fair play to autoglass. I told them that the car was in Ford all day and they phoned up the dealer and arranged a time for it to be done there!
Also had the car looked at this morning by Ford who have agreed to change the crank seal and the aux belt free of charge after I kicked off a bit
They were trying to make me pay half of the price towards the crank seal replacement so that "I would have 12 months warranty on the new parts"
I had to try to explain to the woman on the desk that their guarantee is additional to my Statutory rights. By law anything sold to a consumer must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time.
She kept blabbering on about how if I let them do it for free I won't have any warranty because I wouldn't have purchased the parts.
That's like taking a broken phone back to the store after it failed prematurely, getting a new one and being told that because I didn't purchase that very phone I don't have a warranty
Anyway after a bit of arguing it's getting fixed so I can't moan. They wouldn't give me a refund of the courtesy car though and I'll have to pay for it again when the car is booked back in.
