Hmmm this is the entire contents of that file as a hex dump (128 bytes).

I don't know what to make of it, it doesn't make much sense. It's certainly not executable by any CPU architecture I can think of - definitely not a PC program! If anything I'd guess it'd be data for some sort of patching algorithm (although I can't see any sensible pattern to suggest that)- or perhaps it's just plain old corrupt or for a strange program/specialist device.

Sorry I can't offer any more help on it - I really didn't expect it to be so small... :(

As for Vista, I've been playing with it for about a year and a half now and it stinks. It's impossible to get it to do 'plain and simple' like you can with XP, it's dog slow to do anything and its configuration stuff is hidden behind several layers of confusing crap. At least the UAC crap is easy enough to disable... I do like its task manager, resource manager and i/o scheduler though. Those are nice, but the rest of it stinks. I really really really wish they'd backport DirectX10 to XP :(
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

well i can help sorry have been away for a bit
ok lets start although .bin files are commonly
assosiated with .cue files that is not always
the case .bin files are also used when you
want to upgrade a bios whether its the
mainboard, cd/dvd drives, video cards
but to upgrade you need to have the software.
without the software you can't upgrade the
bios, i take it this file didn't come with
any software. in which case i would
get in touch with the person you bought
it off and find out if he has a program
that will allow you to run the bin file.
