Re: Look at this petrol receipt and weep....
I have been thinking a bit about my fuel economy recently because I now do a run to work with no traffic lights, traffic etc. all rural roads and steady going.
I can pootle around lightly, BUT, and it's a big BUT - I fear that pootling around in a Deisel is not good for deposit build up so I do daily 'blasts' with full boost to keeps things sweet (IMO).
My garage showed me a 4 year old Renault Clito which was a Learner Car and had spent all of it's life below 2000 rpm and the EGR system had blocked and started throwing lumps at the Turbo (which failed). £1,200.00 later the car was running fine again
I suppose I drive fast in a way, or rather I get up to my cruising speed as quickly as poss. All not good for economy. I like to 'drive' my cars and I suppose my economy suffers. I can always get 50MPG on a run though so I don't think the car's at fault.
I put £30.00 last week and have covered 180 miles so far and the MFD says 120 left to go. Mind you it allways seems to suddenly drop the distance left near the end of the tank so I would only expect about 60 miles now

I drive the same, get up to crusing speed then sit there at 1.1k to 1.8k revs.Welton wrote:I have been thinking a bit about my fuel economy recently because I now do a run to work with no traffic lights, traffic etc. all rural roads and steady going.

I also find my fuel gauge drops sharply in the last half.
Generally I can get 400 miles out of the first half of the tank the last half only lasts 200 miles.
Most cars I have driven are the same to a lesser extent.
My MR2 would actually drop when it was at 1/4 of a tank when you put your foot down and the light would come on but then it would go back up to just under 1/4 of a tank when you backed off the throttle.
Used to worry me abit ;)

Therefore I got 9.88L/100km or 28.59 MPG in your werid speak! Oh and mine is a 2.0 Petrol XU10

Not being a native Brit, I find a lot of things weird here. Why does everyone use "stones", instead of kilograms? Why not a pebble? Miles instead of kilometers? MPG instead of L/100km? OK, I understand the Km bit being related to using weird miles... but who here uses "gallons"? So might as well stick with L/100Km! And the worst thing... why do you lot drive on the wrong side of the bloody road?!

Actually the driving on the left thing actually makes sense from a history point of view.Captain Jack wrote:Not being a native Brit, I find a lot of things weird here. Knights used to ride on the left hand side of the "road", track whatever so that their sword arm was free to belt people (no one a few hundred years ago was left handed as it was a sign of witch craft.)
They would also ride on the left when jousting for the same reason.
That's why we drive on the right side of the road (the left)

Cool, an impromptu history lesson from Eric
We Brits like imperial measures!
we go for a 'pint'
we park 'inches' from you
we put on a few 'pounds'
In the bedroom department we don't whip out our 177.8 mm'er, Oh No, we whip out a 7 incher!!!

Some of us Brits are a little.... bigger (metric or imperial)

But most of the Imperial measurements were based off estimations, feet, yards, inches, etc were all based on everyday objects that people could identify so could visualise the approximate size.
Ok it wasn't very accurate and every area used different measurements slightly.
Probably explains why nothing that was built hundreds of years ago in Britain is straight, just look at old English houses - Not a straight line in sight

We go for a "Schooner"
We park "FAAAAAAAAAAAAAARKIN CLOSE"
We put on a few kilos.
Anyways, I'm rather content with my metric system and my ice cold beer.

Re: Look at this petrol receipt and weep....
Why not? The kilogram is just based off some lump of metal sitting in a vault in France. In fact the value of "1 kilogram" actually changes with time as the lump of metal is subjected to atmospheric conditions...Captain Jack wrote:Not being a native Brit, I find a lot of things weird here. <steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
