yeah u might be able to get the cam belt done on your v6 mondeo for the difference

didn't want a petrol 406 because of the economy so you got a v6 mundano?

I got my V6 D8 for £620

Well you could buy a V6 Mondeo or, you could buy a V6 406, but which is better? there's only one way to find out......

406 3.0 V6, 194bhp, 0-60 in 7.5s, top speed 149mph, beautiful, supremely comfortable and reliable
Mondeo 2.5 V6, 167bhp, 0-60 in 8.0s, top speed 139mph, ugly as hell, not a nice place to be when broken down on the side of the road (ie a normal drive)

They have a timing chain mate.

Besides, I'd DIY a timing belt if it indeed had one.

I never said I didn't want a petrol 406 because of the economy. I said I wanted a diesel D9, because of the way they look, the way they drive, and the economy of the diesels is very good.

The Mondeo came up at approaching half of what I'd be paying for the aforementioned 406. Plus, I know them quite well, I've owned one before and it's a nice enough place to be. Especially as it's a Ghia X, so it's fully loaded.

D8 holds zero interest for me. It looked dated, somewhat bland, and rather rushed/unfinished since the moment the D9 came out. I dare say they're nice enough cars, and I'll bet they drive a lot like the facelift, but they just don't interest me.

I've had my fast cars, and grew out of all that a long time ago. Besides, I've still got my Daytona 955i for when I want to go fast. I've lived with 0-100mph in 6 seconds as my daily ride for the last few years, no car is going to feel quick after that.

You have a very low opinion of the Mondeo, mjb. We've had a V6 Ghia X model in the family for the last decade and 100k+ miles, and it's never let the owner down... has averaged 29mpg with crappy town use and over 35mpg on a run... that's pretty hard to argue with, IMO.

ETA - Steve - it is a manual, and the clutch is plenty strong. I'll be DIYing it when the time comes, so minimal expense
